Innovation is considered to be a need of the knowledge-based economy nowadays. In the meantime, its level regarding to the Polish economy, provinces and society is far from the one that is expected. Existing definitions in the literature explain innovation as the ability to explore and create new solutions, adapt them to specific conditions, implement in practice, and then apply in the wider field. Innovation means also the capacity to create, implement and promote innovation. As a result of the innovativeness the new grounds for improving the quality of life, social welfare are created. What is more, the innovativeness builds up a favourable conditions for the improvement of living conditions in the cities. The aim of this essay is to present the institutions which contribute to innovativeness of the cities and regions through boosting the innovation processes. It is important to focus on the role of the technology parks and technology transfer centers in the process because the growth of innovation will not happen overnight.

The aim of the present study is descriptive analysis of the spatial variation of basic macroeconomic variables in the provinces. Variables whose variation is considered here are: GDP per capita gross value of fixed assets per capita, investment per capita, wages and the unemployment rate. Work carried out in the discussion, because of the availability of relevant statistics for the CSO ww.stat.gov.pl in August 2012, concern the years 2002–2009 (GDP per capita and gross fixed assets per capita), 2002–2010 (investment per capita), or 2002–2011 (wages and unemployment rate). Summarizes the development of taxonomic analysis of complex economic indicators of macroeconomic variables previously considered.

This article discuses an important issue about stimulate innovation on the example of the świętokrzyskie voivodeship. At the beginning author presented the level of innovation in the świętokrzyskie region. Next she made attempts to explained of this situation. The last section describes how local government implemented the aims included in regional innovation strategy.
