The article is an attempt to indicate the most important linguistic means of construing 'onomastyka' (onomastics) and 'onomasta' (onomastician) in texts published in the 49 issues of 'Onomastica'. In it onomastics is understood in the framework of the postpositivistic philosophy of science: as a text-creating practice situated in the model of scientific communication, in which the construing of the senses is conditioned by factors beyond the subject matter, among others the local and historically variable socio-cultural context. The authoress indicates several constant, affectively and axiologically marked conceptual antonyms on which the discourse of onomastics is based, among them 'center/periphery', 'knowledge/ignorance', 'we/they', 'subordination/independence', as well as their textual equivalents. The existence of such a binary structure in the texts of onomasticians is an effect of the hybrid character of this subdiscipline of the humanities, as well as a manifestation of anthropocentrism, ethnocentrism and egocentrism of the subjects forming this discourse.
