Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW), was signed at Geneva on October 10, 1980. The scope of the Convention and its additional protocols include restrictions of use: weapons with nondetectable fragments, landmines and booby traps, incendiary weapons, laser blinding weapons, explosive remnants of weapons. Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction (The Ottawa Treaty), signed at Ottawa on December 3, 1997, completely bans all anti-personnel landmines. The Author highlights military, humanitarian and legal aspects of such restrictions.
