Social categories in the writings of Saint Francis of Assisi and in Franciscan hagiography were till now an object of interest just in the historiographic aspect. Present study touches this issue, but focuses its attention on the linguistic dimension. The subject of the analysis is basically a group of three fragments, rich in names of diverse social categories: The story of true and perfect joy, the second edition of The letter to the faithful and the 23rd chapter of the First rule. They show the extensive social awareness of the author, who is sensitive to problems related to the complexity of the social structure of the contemporary world and the divisions result from it. The rhetoric of the analysed texts turns out to be extremely rich: enumerations, diphthologies, multiples, epiphones. They all testify to the emotional involvement of the author in the content of the enunciation, and confirming his awareness and linguistic maturity as well. Saint Francis in the analysed texts appears as a man who is keenly interested in the situation of his contemporary world and individual social groups, including women and children, which in his era was not so obvious. It confirms the Christian truth about the common perspective of eternity and the universality of salvation, independent of earthly divisions and differences.

Kategorie społeczne w pismach św. Franciszka z Asyżu i w hagiografii franciszkańskiej były dotąd przedmiotem zainteresowania w aspekcie historiograficznym. Prezentowane studium podejmuje tę kwestię, skupiając jednak uwagę na jego wymiarze językoznawczym. Przedmiotem analiz są zasadniczo trzy fragmenty, obfitujące w nazwy zróżnicowanych kategorii społecznych: opowieść O prawdziwej i doskonałej radości, druga redakcja Listu do wiernych i 23. rozdział Reguły niezatwierdzonej. Ukazują one rozległą świadomość społeczną autora, wrażliwego na problemy związane ze złożonością struktury społecznej współczesnego mu świata oraz wynikającymi z niej podziałami. Retoryka analizowanych tekstów okazuje się niezwykle bogata: enumeracje, dyftologie, jednostki wieloczłonowe, epifonem. Świadczą one o zaangażowaniu emocjonalnym autora w treść enuncjacji, potwierdzając jednocześnie jego świadomość i dojrzałość językową. Św. Franciszek w analizowanych tekstach jawi się jako człowiek żywo zainteresowany sytuacją współczesnego mu świata i poszczególnych grup społecznych, nie wyłączając kobiet i dzieci, co w jego epoce nie było takie oczywiste. Potwierdza on chrześcijańską prawdę o wspólnej perspektywie wieczności i powszechności zbawienia, niezależnej od ziemskich podziałów i różnic.

Les catégories sociales mentionnées dans les écrits de saint François d’Assise, jusqu’alors étudiés du point de vue historiographique, sont ici étudiées du point de vue linquistique. Les exemples sont relevés des trois passages : Joie parfaite, Lettres à tous les fidèles (rédaction II), Règle non approuvée (chap. 23). Ces passages dévoilent une profonde conscience sociale de l’auteur, sensible aux problèmes liés à la complexité de la structure sociale de son époque. Les figures rhétoriques (énumérations, diphotologie, épiphonème, etc.) témoignent de l’engagement émotionnel de l’auteur dans ses écrits, confirmant ainsi sa matrise de la langue. Saint François se révèle en tant qu’homme vivement intéressé par la situation du monde et de la société de son époque, y compris les femmes et les enfants, ce qui alors n’était pas évident. Il confirme la vérité chrétienne sur la perspective commune de l’éternité et de l’universalité du salut, indépendante des divisions et des différences humaines.
