This paper touches upon a crucial motive in the evolution of the spirituality of St. Augustine: the authority of the Holy Bible, which he had first rejected on his reading Hortensius Cicero. Cicero’s work, being in itself an invitation to philosophy, raised St. Augustine love of wisdom (philosophia). In its latter part, this article discloses the reason why the Doctor of Grace adhered to the Manichean doctrine, which he found attractive for its promise to give access to truth without reference to the authority of the faith (terribilis auctoritas). This article gives the reader a chance to follow the path of St. Augustine’s spiritual growth. Despite his Christian roots and education, bequeathed to him by his Saint mother Monica, his juvenile pride and his overambitious attitude made him reject the authority of the Holy Bible, which he found at tangent with his own intellectual needs. In short, he rejected the authority of the faith and regarded it as useless, since it raised his anxiety and terror (terribilis auctoritas). This is why he subscribed to the Manichean doctrine, which promised a completely rational comprehension of truth.

Finding St. Augustine’s influence on texts of Albert Camus, in order to call it complementary, would have to rely on the analysis of the whole work of the French writer, since the “presence” of Augustine in work of Camus does not break off at any time of his literary activity. In contrast, it starts to have its overtone in the one of the first texts which have come out from the pen of young Camus. Thus this article has to serve as a reminiscence of the previous findings and at the same time their explanation (as they are not always methodologically satisfactory), and also as a sketch for a thorough monograph, showing a variety of fields, in which dialogue of St. Augustine with Camus takes place, containing a reference to those fields, that have not been the subject of interest yet.

The author of the article reflects on two aspects: the Trinity and time. He tries to show the possibility of combining these two realities in some way and he suggests in what way this would be possible. He then presents some notions of time and analyses a concept of the eternity, which is one of the categories used by thinkers in reflecting on the Trinitarian Reality. Finally, he describes a proposal of correlation regarding God and time.

Autor artykułu podejmuje refleksję nad dwoma aspektami: Trójcą Świętą i czasem. W końcowej części artykułu, autor przedstawia własną propozycję relacji pomiędzy Bogiem i czasem.
