W artykule przedstawiono analizę subiektywnych uwarunkowań sytuacji życiowej osób ubogich – poczucia kontroli losu oraz bieżących i aspiracyjnych autoidentyfikacji. Autorka prezentuje liczne świadomościowe deficyty świadczeniobiorców pomocy społecznej. Deficyty te nie tylko (współ)decydują o realizowanych przez biednych strategiach radzenia sobie z trudną sytuacją życiową, ale także istotnie ograniczają szanse na trwałe przełamanie deprywacji i wydostanie się z kręgu społeczno-ekonomicznego upośledzenia.

The article describes the analysis of subjective determinants of life situation of the poor - the sense of having control over fate, as well as their current and aspirational self-identifications. Numerous deficits in awareness in social care recipients are discussed. Not only do these deficits influence the strategies implemented by the poor in order to deal with difficult life situation, but also significantly limit the chances for long-lasting success in dealing with demoralization and breaking out of the circle of socio-economic backwardness.
