The article presents the history of a little-known Krakow Jewish charity association called Róża Rock’s Association of the former Wards of the Fostering Centre for Jewish Orphans.ntil now, academic literature devoted to the history of the Krakow Jewish district has lacked adetailed analysis of the history of this association.Róża Rock’s association was established at the end of the 1930s in the Kazimierz district. The aim of the article is to recreate the genesis of the creation of this charity organization as well as to present the analysis of its administrative structure. It needs to be emphasizedthat it was not atypical association that takes care of Jewish orphans. In accordance with its status, the association took care of young adults who were leaving the Fostering Centre forJewish Orphans at Dietla 64 Street and the Apprentice’s Dormitory for girls at Bonerowska 10 Street. Thus, by definition, the organisation was to be anatural continuation of the activity undertaken by the above-mentioned fostering centres. Of course, it was not possible for all of the former wards to continue living together or to finance everyday needs. However, theexistence and activity of this association became a meeting space for those young people. Simultaneously, it gave them a sense of security and afeeling that the former wards, regardless of their live situation, could count on one another.
The Jews for several hundred years lived in the Polish lands, from the 16th century on the areas of the present Biała Podlaska County and formed a significant part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth society. They had own customs, traditions, language and religion and settled primarily small towns and market settlements. To high degree they influenced the socio-economic development of the Lublin region, including Sławatycze – small town on the Bug River.

Zamieszkiwali przede wszystkim małe miasteczka i osady targowe.
To give the rebels weapons, together worked in East Prussia Poles from Greater Poland, Mazury and Warmia , to a lesser extent Germans and especially Jews - both local as well as those from the Kingdom of Poland. In Königsberg an underground network that introduced weapons from Western countries emerged. It was founded by the trading company of the brothers Chostomski and Koronowicz. Its most active helpers were, among others the Jewish merchant Johann Sohn and the agent of the Polish National Government J. Reichstein. In the base of the insurgents in Friedrichshof, district Szczytno, teamed up with the sale of weapons mainly of Masure Robert Kosiorek and the Jew Eyssig Keller out. At the Masurian Lakes the Jew Z. Steinhirt and Masure Szarejko made a similar duet. In almost every town and in the southern Warmia Mazury there were Jewish companies that smuggled along with the Mazury and Warmia population, sometimes with the German, illegal weapons across the border into the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania. This co-operation and mutual trust were, thanks to the time of Polish-Jewish brotherhood 1861-1862 possible. Of the 44 Jews who helped the Poles in East Prussia during the January Uprising, located just two proved to be a traitor.

Mazur presents the context of the origin and reception of the series, but also analyses the specific interpretation of the document by Sutkus, regarded as one of the most eminent Lithuanian photographers.

The earliest mention of Jews in Szadek dates from the early 16th century, but it was in the second half of the 18th century, that this nationality group became more numerous and started gaining prominence in the socio-economic life of this town. In 1913, every third resident of Szadek (2.8 thousand inhabitants at that time) was Jewish. The majority of trading was carried out by Jews – there were 34 shops run by Jews, and only 7 were kept by Catholics. During the Second World War most of the Jews from Szadek were put to death in a concentration camp in Chełm on the River Ner; the few who survived the occupation soon emigrated. Almost no material trace has remained of this nationality group, which had for centuries been an important component of local community, in terms of both socio-economic and cultural development. The only material evidence, being a memorial to the Jewish community in Szadek, is a Jewish cemetery, recently restored after post-war devastation.
The paper presents results of ethnographic research on the Jewish community in Szadek. By means of interviews with persons who remember the prewar period information was collected about Jewish people living there in the 1930s, during German occupation, at the time of existence and liquidation of the ghetto, and in the post-war period – return of the survivors and the history of the synagogue and the Jewish cemetery. The picture presented in this article is made up of accounts given by Szadek’s Polish residents. Their reminiscences and descriptions of persons, places, events and situations, culture, traditions and occupations reveal emotions and attitudes towards the Jewish community and throw some light on interpersonal relations.
Monografia pióra E. Skorupskiej-Raczyńskiej pt. „Żydzi w powieściach współczesnych Elizy Orzeszkowej…” stanowi istotne dopełnienie prezentacji badań Autorki nad językowym obrazem i językową kreacją świata. The paper concerns the Special Commission, a paramilitary Jewish organisation formed after the pogrom in Kielce (July 5, 1946) in order to defend the Jewish population. It existed for less than one year, yet it had a significant impact on the stabilisation of the life of this community in post-war Poland. Its divisions were meant to be formed at Jewish Committees, though the process was not always consistent. Owing to that, it created its own administrative division, that differed slightly from the one drawn by the Jewish self-government in the Central Committee of Polish Jews (CKŻP). The paper presents the specificity of geographical coverage, where Special Commissions operated.

In polemical dialogue Jn 8:31-59 the expression about "the Jews w ho had believed in Jesus" (v. 31) seems to contradict what Jesus himself says later in the text. This problem can be resolved by translating the perfect participle as the pluperfect. In this case the expression in Jn 8:31 may be referred to those who had believed but who now believe no longer. The analysis of this expression shows the importance of the concept of faith in the Fourth Gospel. The process of faith of persons who meet Jesus is contrasted with those who do not believe. In the background of ethical and apocalyptical dualism the author of the Fourth Gospel wanted to show the dynamism ofthe faith and its existential nature.
Zainteresowanie Żydów lwowskich sprawami kształcenia dzieci głuchoniemych i niewidomych pobudził Wiedeń, gdzie powstały pierwsze w Europie żydowskie szkoły dla głuchoniemych i niewidomych. Została ona założona w Bojanowie w 1926 r., a w 1936 r. przeniesiono ją do Warszawy. Artykuł poszerza dotychczasowy stan badań nad dziejami oświaty osób niepełnosprawnych na ziemiach polskich, ukazując wkład środowiska żydowskiego w rozwój szkół dla głuchoniemych i niewidomych.
