The paper deals with different art functions of Geo Shkurupij’s novelette The Provoker (1927); the writer’s specific interpretation of such genre as the novel of solving secrets is analyzed through the prism of futurism and formalism in metadiscourse of the 1920s, as well as its intertextual background.
