Рассматривается религиозная самоидентификация личности в белорусской и польской прозе малых жанров на рубеже XIX–XX ст. Выделяются общие, созвучные времени интерпретации, а также специфичные для каждой из литератур. Показывается, как выявленные отличия связаны с конфессиональной историей народов, в частности с доминантным вероисповеданием, и их влияние на культуру.

The paper is devoted to religious self-identification in Belarusian and Polish prose of small genres at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries. The overlap and differences in interpretation are distinguished. It is shown how the identified differences are related to the confessional history of peoples, in particular, to the dominant confession, and its impact on the culture.
