The object of the study is comforting as a non-binding directive speech act. The article discusses the expression of comforting with the help of the speech act of advice. The analysis is based on three Slavic languages: Russian, Polish and Czech. The examples for study are excerpted from Internet blogs and fora, as well as other web sources and real life communication. The analysis of the language material shows that utterances with imperatives are the most typical way to express comforting.
