Afifth session from a series of scientific meetings organised since 1998 upon the initiative of the Łódź Branch of the Society of Polish Historians of Art was held on 8-9 November 2007 in Łódź. The debates, entitled “In a Factory, a Salon, a Theatre and a Cafe – Łódź Interiors in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Century”, took place in the Biedermann Palace and the Scheibler Palace. The first day included a presentation of local residential architecture from the turn of the nineteenth century and the outcome of the most recent research concerning its authors; the participants also sought an answer to questions relating to the origin, message and significance of forms, styles, as well as iconographic and decorative motifs popular in this architecture. The next day was devoted to, i. a. the results of a survey conducted in British archives, casting new light on authorship and analysing the development of spatial forms of the local factories, which entailed a presentation of the newest projects of a revitalisation of certain historical buildings and a discussion of such elements of interior design and outfitting as plush and etched window panes. A film virtually reconstructing old fabrics showed the potential of the contemporary documentation of historical monuments. An evening meeting featuring the exhibition ”Łódź Architecture in Drawings by Tadeusz Mycek” took place at the Museum of Cinematography Gallery, located in the cellars of the Scheibler residence.
