Stylized acronyms in astronomical names

100%
EN
There are two groups of acronyms: stylised as words (PALMA) or not stylised as words (TORWAR). The astronomical acronyms are divided by the authors into three groups: simple acronyms that evoke any noun (GONG), cultural acronyms that evoke cultural associations (ADONIS) and substantial acronyms that evoke substantial function or characteristic of a denotat (MACHO). The authors conclude that the longer 'meaningful' acronym is, the more stylistically elaborated it becomes. Different elements participate in the process of acronym formation: it is supposed to sound in a certain way but on the other hand there are limitations in shortening of a full name of a denotat. These two factors coexist and complement each other. The process of the acronyms formation is influenced by dictates of advertisement and commerciality - they are short and easy to remember. If, in the same time they evoke certain names or cultural concepts they become intriguing and help in popularisation of astronomical researches, projects and equipment.
