This article is concerned with one aspect of the changes that affected 19th-century Polish agriculture namely the role played in the adoption of modern techniques of agricultural production by specialized popular periodicals. A large collection of such publications which were used as source material for this article can be found in the Special Collections section of the Public Library at Kielce. The bound volumes came from home libraries of the local landowning gentry. The article reviews the profile of individual periodicals and assess their quality in the context of developments and trends set by the works of renowned Polish and foreign authors (from down-to-earth manuals to more general treatises). The article concludes that the popular agricultural periodicals covered all aspects of farming and no doubt made a great contribution to the introduction of various improvements and technological innovations to the 19th-century Polish farm.
