The paper sums up the results of field research carried out in four regions of Poland. The aim of the conducted research was to gather and analyse the opinions of farmers on the continuation of farming in the new conditions (EU membership) in the agriculturally handicapped areas. The preservation of farming in the areas that are weaker due to their natural conditions constitutes one of the objectives of assistance to agriculture in these areas.
