The paper is focused on the scope and significance of write-offs for nonfinancial assets of companies included in index WIG30 at Warsaw Stock Exchange. The authors conducted study that compares the write-offs for main categories of nonfinancial assets. The study revealed that fixed assets and inventories constituted assets that were impaired for the majority of companies and the write-offs for those assets were most significant. It was found that there is a positive correlation between a ratio of fixed assets to total assets and a ratio of fixed assets’ write-offs to total assets, as well as a ratio of inventories to total assets and a ratio of inventories’ write-offs to total assets. The study revealed that there was also a correlation between industry sector and significance of write-offs for fixed assets, inventories and (to some extent) intangibles.
