The article provides an example of the influence of the cultural code, as well as linguistic conventions, on the form of a translation. A comparison between the original text and the translated Polish and Swedish texts revealed the adjustment to the cultures receiving the translations. Polish translator Joanna Borycka-Zakrzewska exploited the stylistic richness of the Polish language and used a variety of marked verbs, where additional paralinguistic elements are also stressed. Frequent repetitions of the same verb would in Polish be felt to be incompatible with accepted conventions. Swedish translator IngridnWikén Bonde have not varied the translation and used the lexical repetitions. It was possible to transfer Schmidt’s simple and repetitive style into the Swedish text without interfering with Swedish linguistic and stylistic conventions.

Het artikel betreft de vertaling van het boek Jip en Janneke in het Pools. Jip en Janneke is een klassiek voorbeeld van kinderliteratuur in Nederland. Het artikel bevat een theoretische inleiding waarin de geschiedenis van de kinderliteratuur in Nederland en het fenomeen van het schrijverschap van Annie M.G. Schmidt wordt gepresenteerd. Vervolgens wordt de aandacht gericht op cultuurgebonden elementen in vertaling. Een onderdeel van het artikel is een analyse van de vertaling van geselecteerde cultuurelementen, d.w.z. realia (o.a. namen, eten, feesten zoals Sinterklaas en kinderliedjes). Het geheel wordt afgerond met een conclusie.

The article concerns the translation of the book Jip en Janneke into Polish. Jip en Janneke is a classic example of children’s literature in the Netherlands. The article contains a theoretical introduction where the history of children’s literature in the Netherlands and the phenomenon of writership by Anna M.G. Schmidt was presented. Then attention is focused on the cultural specific items in translation. The last part of the work is the analysis of the translation of selected cultural elements, i.e. realia (including names, food, special days such as Sinterklaas and children’s songs). At the end of the article there are conclusions.

Elementy kulturowe w tłumaczeniu na język polski na podstawie Jasia i Janeczki Annie M.G. Schmidt Artykuł dotyczy tłumaczenia książki Jip en Janneke na język polski (Jaś i Janeczka). Jip en Janneke to klasyczny przykład literatury dziecięcej w Holandii. Artykuł zawiera wprowadzenie teoretyczne, w którym została zaprezentowany historia literatury dziecięcej w Holandii i fenomen pisarstwa Anny M.G. Schmidt. Następnie uwaga koncentruje się na tłumaczeniu elementów kulturowych. Część artykułu stanowi analiza tłumaczenia wybranych elementów kulturowych, tzw. realiów (w tym nazw własnych, jedzenia, świąt takich jak np. Sinterklaas i piosenek dla dzieci).
