The major role in contemporary sociology belongs to the issue of autobiography and the so-called biographical method, understood variously. There is a development of research on history of life based on both subjective and objective sources. Professor Szczepanski applies both these ways. The authoress focuses on his works on the course of life, based on scholarly research results, but also on his personal reflections, his own experience and common knowledge. This is what there is to be found in 'Sprawy ludzkie' (1978) (Human Issues) and 'O indywidualnosci' (1988) (On Individuality).

TThe biographical method is one of the most characteristic methodological perspectives in the research of culture in Polish anthropology and sociology. According to this, human conduct is to be studied and understood from the perspective of the person involved, which is included in Florian Znaniecki's theory. Criticizing naturalism, he did not object natural science immobilizing its objects of research for its own purpose, and treating them as things. Biographical method exposes autonomy, self-determination and individual world view. Human experiences are not mental conditions, but objects and arrangement of objects. Human activities are not psychological processes, but functions of subjective origins and objective importance. Life history can be: complete, topical and edited. Due to its diachronic character, the biographical analysis of personal documents must generalize from the study of single cases. Cultural reality cannot be described so much in terms of casualty as in terms of the so-called long duration.

Eugeniusz Frankowski (1884-1962) belonged to the most prominent figures in Polish ethnology of the first half of the 20th century and a true expert in Iberian studies. This article is the third of the series Iberica Frankowsciana and has been written for the 120th anniversary of the scholar's birth. The author's intention was to commemorate Eugeniusz Frankowski and his achievements both in Iberian and Basque studies. He begins with the account of Frankowski's fieldwork in Spain in the years 1914-1920 (also in Portugal and in the South of France) and his active participation in the Spanish academic life. Next, his constant relations with Spain in the 1930s are presented, as well as the activities promoting closer Polish-Spanish contacts. In the next part of the article the author describes Frankowski's scholarly achievements. However, only small part of his works has been published. Most of the studies prepared for publication, as well as ethnographic documentation were destroyed during the World War II. Many of the opinions about the researches by Frankowski and the meaning of his works in the history of Spanish ethnology, haven't been known in Poland by now.

study explores the problem of scholarly accessibility of life courses of individual friars on the example of the Servite order. The author analyses the principles of intentional keeping and shaping of memory on the members of the order and points out the intepretational possibilities and limits connected with the preserved sources as well as with the processes of ascribing meaning, and more specifically fame to individual friars. The author emphasises that the category of fame has had a long tradition of usage within religious orders which is closely tied to the literary concept of „viri illustres“. It is therefore necessary to take into account the filters of perception which were at work in the processes of preserving the collective memory on individual members of the order.
