Responding to Józef Orczyk article, published in the 3rd issue of the 'Social Policy' in 2007 the authoress presents her own opinion about the bursary system at the universities in Poland. She argues that universities should not be responsible for the social help for indigent students, and that this task should be within the competence of social institutions in their place of residence. The bursary system needs to be reformed, because it is prone to misallocation of resources and it is unfair (students in similar financial situation are treated differently). Universities should restrict to granting scientific scholarships and scholarships for best results in sport.
