Entrepreneurship is an evolving category that plays a vital role in socio-economic development. It has also become an important research area in economics, management, and other fields of science, where it takes into account the different dimensions and approaches to the presented issues, on a macro, mezzo, and micro scale, as well as in local, regional, national, and international dimensions which have both economic and non-economic nature. Entrepreneurship is conductive to developing innovative projects and undertaking creative activities and initiatives that affect an individual, society, and economy. It is associated with the formation of entrepreneurial attitudes related to such ways of perceiving the world, thinking, or acting which create opportunities to implement social and economic innovations and take advantage of development opportunities. It also enables the search for effective ways to operate on the market and achieve better results in terms of profitability or efficiency. Entrepreneurial activities, initiatives, and projects often require support provided by introducing appropriate regulations and instruments and establishing institutions that constitute the external environment. They can contribute to the development of unused areas of business activity. Education also plays a significant role in a better understanding of the concept of entrepreneurship.

In ensuring growth and development collaborative State-Business relations (SBRs) matters, and with economic growth comes increasing levels of employment, options for poverty reduction and hence more equitable development. Whereas it is known that SBR matters at a macro-economic level, the concept of SBR has also been employed in a more or less all-encompassing way in the literature. Accordingly, while it is clear that SBRs work, there is lack knowledge about which dimensions of SBRs are the most important. Due to the continued importance of agriculture in many developing countries, processing of the food produced in the sector is a key manufacturing activity of high economic importance to many economies. Ensuring collaborative SBRs in the food processing industry is therefore of interest to growth and development, particularly as it is a sector about which little is known about the role of SBRs. The paper attempts to examine how and why SBRs matter to and influence the growth and performance of local owned firms in the food processing sub-sector in Zambia. In particular, the paper analyses the roles and influence of government regulations and policies compared to those of business associations for the performance of the food processing sector in Zambia. The paper draws on primary data from a survey of firms in the food processing sector which was conducted between 2013 and 2014. It is shown that while the majority of the Zambian food processing firms experienced growth over the last five years, with increased employment and in a number of cases growing earnings, this seems to have happened in spite of a business environment which is not particularly supportive. The firms’ experience is that the SBRs mainly constitute institutional barriers to the performance of firms and highlight that formal government institutions and polices are incapable of assisting the firms and in most cases government institutions formulate and enact insufficient support schemes.

The transport infrastructure and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have a significant effect on competitiveness of transport industry, and indirectly determine the business environment in related sectors. In Latvia, all transport related state strategies and policies are developed, controlled and overviewed by the Ministry of Transport. Eleven companies are engaged in commercial/non-commercial activities, and evaluated whether the liberalization of certain activities would provide efficiency among SOEs in the transport industry of Latvia, given the sectoral weight and share of State involvement and control of the industry. There is limited and contradictory debate to what extent the Latvian state should involve in business activities of transport industry, and how to balance the multiple interests and targets of business, society and politics. The present research is based on the scientific papers, official documents of the World Bank and OECD (Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development), company websites and annual reports.

Insurance supports a healthy and prosperous society, enabling businesses and individuals to protect themselves, property, and their finances against risk. As such, insurance today is not just important for the individual consumer, business client or businesses; it also has consequences for the entire economy, restoring businesses to health after natural disasters, acts of war, riots, strikes, fluctuations or financial crises, and state measures to dictate the import or export of goods. The aim of this paper is to examine the part played by insurance in the economy of the Republic of North Macedonia. This paper introduces and summarises an argument and outlines the nature of the exploration to follow. For this introductory purpose, referencing in the paper is kept deliberately light; aiming to find discussion points of relevant sources in the course of the argument as it unfolds. We argue that insurance operates not at the periphery, but also at the core of development, in both practical and conceptual terms. Research of the space that insurance occupies and the role that insurance has in general welfare is performed by using the legal platform that insurance has in place, including the Law on Obligations, the Law on Insurance Supervision, and the Law on Compulsory Traffic Insurance. Through the method of analysis, synthesis, and statistics, the author processes the official data of the Ministry of Finance presented by the National Bank, in order to provide a clear overview of the trends in the use of insurance in the Republic of North Macedonia. The results from the study show that in the time period analysed, the insurance sector is classified as the third most important segment in the financial system, and that life insurance prevails over other types of insurance.

This article presents the work of the French thinker and economist Pierre‑Yves Gomez (* 1960). This author or seeks to define the neoliberal model of economics and society, and defends the principles of the Christian social doctrine. Against the background of Gomez’s texts, I attempt to show that the current neoliberal model can lead to a totalitarian conception of power in society. The main manifestation of neoliberalism is the obscuration of genuine human labour and concrete material values. These are replaced by speculation. According to Gomez, the company’s goal, which lies in the development of human persons and society as a whole, is replaced by financial gain. Gomez fights for the human person, concrete human work and the real material world, which are the prerequisites of a just society.
