The contribution deals with the topic of aesthetization of public space and use of modern architecture in historically valuable environment. These issues have been debated for a long time. The aim of our contribution is connected with questions concerning the topic of aesthetization. We defined the following questions: How can coexistence of history and present state of architectonic works reflect the city ́s image. Can symbiosis of historical and contemporary, old and new create more suitable conditions for realizations of cultural activities? Can architecture of today be regarded in terms of respecting the architectonic language of the past and does it respect past monuments with honour? Public spaces that should play its representative function are to a great extent influenced by interventions into historical architectural structure. In the conclusion of our contribution we present the reader with several famous examples from Slovakia as well as from abroad which confirm that aesthetisation of public space is to a great extent dependent on adherence to and respect of cultural traditions.

The scientific literature on the cultural appropriation of the Tatras is still dominated by the national perspective. The writer of the paper suggests that the physical particularities of the mountain range should be taken seriously and, when researching them, a consistent territorial and historical approach should be used, while at the same time she seeks support in the concept of synoptic nature of Central European culture, as it was formulated by Peter Zajac.

The article is concerned with the situation of Slovak literary translation in the period of 1945 – 1989. It maps its development through four historical determining factors of the Slovak cultural and translation space: geopolitical situation, language situation, political gesture and the confessional phenomenon. This is the background of the mutually related and interacting, historically determined trajectories territorial eccentricity → territorial integrity, exo identity → endo identity, heterolingualism → monolingualism, fragmentariness → integrality and relativity of signification → absolute meaning. The text focuses on the linguistic situation and the political gesture in the context of Lotman’s concept of culture and historicity, and on the value aspect, which is considered from the point of view of the role of literary translation in the cultural system in relation to the cultural code. The value of translation is understood as a renewal of the cultural code through disruption, and on textual level as conceptual renewal of meaning in relation to the poetic and ethical consensus with the original, while emphasis is put on the creativity of translation.

This paper deals with a specific genre in Kollár's work, namely the travelogue entitled Journey to Northern Italy (1843), which is an integral piece of central European travelogues of the 19th century. The study focuses on the analysis of the first stretch of the writer´s journey to the territory of the Hungarian Kingdom, specifically on the description of the area Zalavár/Mosaburg which belongs to the well-known early medieval settlements of the Cyril and Methodius era. On the one hand, the author’s focus is on the method of the space organization of the mentioned travelogue rooted in the Baroque era (first of all the phenomena as enfilade or central organization of the space). On the other hand, the author pays attention to Kollár’s efforts to create a modern Slavic cultural space from the old one as well as to the writer´s endeavour to set the Slavic cultural space free from the Hungarian captivity.
