Autorki artykułu poświęcają swoje zainteresowanie problematyce związanej z poszukiwaniem społecznych definicji sukcesu i czynników mu sprzyjających. Zakładając, że różnice w pojmowaniu sukcesu i powodzenia w życiu stanowią odzwierciedlenie istnienia rozmaitych systemów wartości, poszukują dominującego sposobu rozumienia tego terminu jako odzwierciedlenia dominujących wartości cenionych przez badaną zbiorowość. Z tego powodu poddają analizie wartości i interesy akceptowane i uznawane za ważne przez mieszkańców województwa lubuskiego i podejmują próbę stworzenia listy celów życiowych istotnych dla osiągnięcia powodzenia w życiu oraz strategii jemu sprzyjających. Podstawą empiryczną artykułu są rezultaty dwóch edycji Lubuskiego Sondażu Społecznego (LSS) przeprowadzonych na przełomie 2005 i 2006 roku (pierwsza edycja) oraz w roku 2009 (druga edycja) przez pracowników Instytutu Socjologii Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego.

The article addresses the problem of seeking a social defi nition of success and its contributory factors. Working on the assumption that the differences in comprehending the notion of success and well-being reflect the existence of various systems of values, it was attempted to search for the dominant way of understanding the term as a refl ection of the dominating values cherished by a given community. To this end, the values and interests accepted and considered essential by the inhabitants of the Lubuskie Province were analyzed. It was attempted to list life goals crucial to success and to name the contributory strategies. The empirical basis of the article has been provided by the results of two editions of the Lubuskie Province Social Survey conducted at the turn of 2005 and 2006 (fi rst edition) and in 2009 (second edition) by employees of the Institute of Sociology at the University of Zielona Góra.
