Kardynał Charles Journet wobec mesjanizmu Mickiewicza

The article discusses the main theses of Charles Journet’s essays on mes­sianism and Polish national culture. Three of them were first published in Polish translation in 2017. They represent an interesting episode of the posi­tive reception of Polish romanticism, and especially the religious and politi­cal thought which messianism was. This article reveals how the Swiss theo­logian understood Mickiewicz’s work and presents his methods of reading it. Reconstructing Journet’s thought, the basic errors of romantic messianism are pointed out. On the other hand, a number of premises proving the originality of the assumptions and postulates contained in Mickiewicz’s lectures on Slavic literature are emphasized. The most important of them relate to threads pre­sent in contemporary Catholic social teaching.

Artykuł omawia główne tezy esejów Charles’a Journeta, poświęconych tema­tyce mesjanizmu oraz polskiej kulturze narodowej. Trzy z nich ujrzały światło dzienne w polskim tłumaczeniu po raz pierwszy w 2017 roku. Stanowią one ciekawy epizod pozytywnej recepcji polskiego romantyzmu, zwłaszcza nurtu myśli religijnej i politycznej, jakim był mesjanizm. Niniejszy szkic odsłania sposób lektury teologa i metody jego postępowania z tekstem prelekcji Adama Mickiewicza. Rekonstruując myśl Journeta, wskazuje się tu na podstawowe błędy romantycznego mesjanizmu. Równocześnie podkreśla się wiele przesła­nek świadczących o oryginalności założeń i postulatów zawartych w wykła­dach o literaturze słowiańskiej, z których najważniejsze dotyczą m.in. wątków obecnych we współczesnej społecznej nauce katolickiej.
