The Catholic Youth Association in Szadek was established in 1934, after reorganisation of the Polish Youth Association, which had existed earlier. It carried out religious and social work within the framework of the Catholic Action. The patron of the Association in Szadek in 1934–1939 was the parish priest Rev. Edward Lidtke, and its church assistants were Rev. Stefan Filisiak (1934–1936) and Rev. Bernard Głoskowski (1936–1939). The Szadek troops of male and female youth together with troops in Małyń, Zygry, Zadzim and Korczew formed the Szadek section of the Sieradz branch, which was part of the Włocławek diocese Association. The aim of this organization was to bring up young people in the spirit of the Catholic faith and patriotism. The forms of such education included recollections, “social” days, congresses, conventions, sports competitions and pilgrimages. The events that Szadek youth participated in were, among others, the Eucharistic Congress of the Sieradz Region in Sieradz (1934), district rallies and sporting events (in Zduńska Wola, Sieradz and Złoczew), diocese jamborees (in Charłupia Mała and Włocławek), and a nationwide rally in Częstochowa (1938). The Catholic Association in Szadek did not resume activity after 1945.

Katolickie Stowarzyszenie Młodzieży (KSM) działa w ramach 41 diecezji Kościoła rzymsko-katolickiego w Polsce i wg danych z roku 2019 liczy ok. 20 000 członków zrzeczonych w ok. 1000 oddziałów parafialnych i kół środowiskowych. Wśród licznych aktywności podejmowanych przez KSM jest działalność na rzecz ochrony stworzenia. Niniejsze opracowanie przedstawia kilka najważniejszych projektów ekologicznych realizowanych przez KSM: 1. Bug rzeka życia – edukacja dla młodzieży, młodzież dla ekorozwoju; 2. Młodzi Tej Ziemi; 3. Elektro Odpowiedzialni; 4. Kajakowy Patrol św. Franciszka; 5. Młodzi dla Środowiska; 6. Środowisko Młodzieży.

The Catholic Youth Association (Pol. KSM) operates within 41 dioceses of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland and, according to data from 2019, has approx. 20,000 members in almost 1,000 parish units and community circles. Numerous initiatives undertaken by KSM include, among others, activities aimed at protecting creation. This study presents several of the most important ecological projects implemented by KSM: 1. Bug, the River of Life - Education for Youth, Youth for Sustainable Development; 2. Youth of this Earth; 3. Electro Responsible; 4. Kayaking Patrol of St. Francis; 5. Youth for the Environment; 6. Youth Environment.

Autorka koncentruje się na działalności Katolickiego Stowarzyszenia Młodzieży w okresie międzywojennym na przykładzie parafii pw. św. Floriana w Jednorożcu Jednorożec w pow. przasnyskim, przedstawionej na tle innych parafii kurpiowskich w diecezji płockiej i łomżyńskiej. Artykuł przedstawia dzieje młodzieżowych kolumn Akcji Katolickiej po reformie z 1934 r. Choć w parafii Jednorożec były to oddziały o wiele mniejsze i nie działające tak prężnie jak w centralnej Kurpiowszczyźnie, poznanie ich historii uzupełnia funkcjonujący w literaturze obraz rozwoju społeczno-kulturalnego wsi Jednorożec w okresie międzywojennym. Tekst pozwala też poznać podstawowe formy i znaczenie działalności KSM w parafiach kurpiowskich.

The author concentrates on the Catholic Youth Association’s activities in the interwar period on the example of the parish of St. Florian in Jednorożec (Przasnysz county), presented against the background of other parishes in Kurpie, located in Płock and Łomża Dioceses. The author outlines the history of the youth affiliates of the Catholic Action after the reform in 1934. Although the affiliates in Jednorożec were much smaller and less active than in central Kurpie, learning their history complements the depiction of the socio-cultural development of Jednorożec village in the inter-war period. The article also allows learning about the basic forms and the importance of the Catholic Youth Association’s activity in Kurpian parishes.
