This article refl ects on the sixty years marking the anniversary of the encyclical letter Miranda Prorsus by Pope Pius XII. Miranda Prorsus was the fi rst document written in 1957 by the Church to refl ect on the three important means of communication: Motion Pictures (Film), Television (TV) and Radio. It highlighted the importance of these  “remarkable technical inventions” to aid humanity in as far as development and understanding the media was concerned. Each of these three instruments of communication is examined in both the strengths and weaknesses they carry, but much more, how they can play a role in advancing humanity in the area of morality and truth telling. The article tries to use some of the important highlights in the context of Zambia my country that has embraced these means of communication with radio stations set up by the respective Bishops and a Television soon to be launched by the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB). In retrospect the article tries to show how these means and technical inventions can become handy in as far as the evangelization is concerned.

W historii polskich mediów katolickich niemałą rolę odegrała Katolicka Agencja Prasowa (KAP) działająca w latach 1927–1939. Autor artykułu prezentuje polityczny kontekst działalności publicystycznej KAP pod kierownictwem ks. Zygmunta Kaczyńskiego w świetle materiału badawczego zgromadzonego w archiwach watykańskich. Casus ks. Kaczyńskiego wydaje się dobrym punktem wyjścia do dalszej refleksji nad złożonym problemem relacji poglądów politycznych redaktora naczelnego do potrzeby zrównoważonego opisu rzeczywistości. Augusta Hlonda i kard. Aleksandra Kakowskiego.

In the history of Polish Catholic media a significant role falls to the Catholic Press Agency (KAP) which operated in the years 1927–1939. The author of the article presents the political context of the journalistic activity of KAP under the leadership of Fr. Zygmunt Kaczyński in the light of the research material collected in the Vatican archives. The case of Fr. Kaczyński offers a suitable starting point for more general reflections on the complex problem of the impact of the political views of the editor-in-chief over against the requirement of an objective description of reality. The agency’s journalistic activity meant dealing with topics of a social and political nature, but the clearly declared political views of its director were perceived as a support of one political party and criticism of the government camp. From the relevant source material it follows that even within the Episcopate there was no unanimous opinion on Fr. Kaczyński, as evidenced by the extreme stances of Cardinal August Hlond and Cardinal Aleksander Kakowski.
