The article is devoted to František Čáda. The author describes Čáda’s life dedicated to archivistic,teaching, research and editorial work. She describes how the changes of the political regime in 1948 affected the life of this outstanding Czech legal historian, a diligent editor and an excellent teacher who was forced to leave the university. Only thanks to their commitment and assistance prof. Vojtíšek later found application in manuscripts research. Diligent and accurate work brought him recognition not only among law historians even among codicologists.

This article is devoted to Miroslav Boháček (1899–1982), the first editor of the periodic publication Manuscripts Studies which celebrates its 50th anniversary. The author describes Boháček´s life dedicated to teaching, research, and editorial work. He describes how the change of the political regime in 1948 influenced the life of one of the leading Czech Romanists, a significant professor who was forced to leave the university. Later on, supported by Prof. Vojtisek, Boháček found application in manuscripts research. Due to his precise, accurate work with manuscripts he achieved great success and recognition among codicologists.

Bernard Bischoff was Professor of Medieval Latin Studies at the University in Munich. His immense work was concentrated on the manuscript studies of the Early Middle Ages and the Carolingian Period. Not only the Script, but also the Codex, the Libraries and Latin Literature of these times were in focus of his interest. His chef d´oeuvre, the Catalogue of the Manuscripts of the 9th Century, was completed aft er his death. Some bibliographical referencies make possible detailed information. Few personal remarks close this short sketch.

The article is meant to present – in the first part – the results of the author’s research on the Manuscript Tradition of the Vita S. Pauli monachi Thebaei of St. Jerome and, in particular, what was surveyed through the continuation of the ana­lysis by John Frank Cherf O.S.B. In the second part of the article the most ancient printed editions of the Vita S. Pauli monachi Thebaei of St. Jerome are reviewed.

W drugiej natomiast części artykuł przedstawia i analizuje od strony kodyko­logicznej najstarsze wydania drukiem wyżej wspomnianego dzieła św. Hieronima.

W artykule wskazano i zaznaczono wszystkie warianty rękopisu, które różnią się od tekstu wydania krytycznego tego Hieronimowego dzieła (por. B. Degórski, Edizione critica della “Vita Sancti Pauli Primi Eremitae” di Girolamo, Institutum Patristicum “Augustinianum”, Roma 1987).

The essay analyzes the text of the Vita S. Pauli Monachi Thebaei of St. Jerome contained in the Manuscript Code Vaticanus Latinus 13008, kept in the Apostolic Vatican Library. In particular, are indicated and highlighted all variations of the Manuscript differing from the text of the critical edition of this work by St. Jerome (see B. Degórski, Edizione critica della “Vita Sancti Pauli Primi Eremitae” di Girolamo, Institutum Patristicum “Augustinianum”, Roma 1987).
