Wobec rozwoju gospodarczego, pogłębiających się tendencji współpracy gospodarczej w skali regionalnej mamy do czynienia z intensyfikacją powiązań transportowych. Polska, uczestnicząc w integracji europejskiej musi stawać się częścią ponadnarodowego systemy transportowego, podejmując działania dostosowujące nasz system do stanu osiągniętego w rozwiniętych krajach europejskich. Jednym z podstawowych problemów limitujących rozwój transportu w UE od lat 90. jest jego infrastruktura. Wszystkie prognozy wskazują na fakt, że obecna infrastruktura w Europie nie jest w stanie przyjąć spodziewanego przyrostu ruchu. Opracowanie przedstawia próbę analizy rozwoju infrastruktury transportowej w Polsce w latach 1992-2002, z wykorzystaniem miernika syntetycznego na tle odpowiednich procesów zachodzących w zachodnioeuropejskich krajach UE.

Drawing into attention to the enlarging tendencies of economic co-operation in the regional scale we can observe an intensification of transport links. Joining transport systems of selected countries shows that a transport sector will be one of the most important areas of integration. One of the fundamental problems determining development of transport in the European Union from 90s is a transport infrastructure. Prognoses confirm that an infrastructure is not able to take a foreseen increase of road traffic. The elaboration presents a trial of analyses of transport infrastructure development in Poland in 1992-2002 in the light of suitable processes observing in the West countries of the European Union. A survey, which for a target take a synthetic estimation of development measure, was conducted with application of multidimensional comprise statistical analyses. In spite of general expectations instead of level, structural comparisons suggest increasing development disproportion between Poland and advanced countries of the European Union. Without suitable investment outlays Poland will not be able to participate actively in creation of transport space.
