The article explores relations between Czeslaw Milosz’s views on possibility of articulating religious experience in modern literature and the critical reception of his work. It distinguishes several approaches to this subject by the critics, some of them labeling Milosz’s poetry as ‘religious’ (I. Sławińska), some checking its theological correctness (J. Szymik), others applying ontological categories to its interpretation (i.e. A. Fiut) or taking inspiration from phenomenology of religion (Z. Zarębianka). The article signalize the lack of historical sensitivity of those perspectives and points out post-secular turn as a chance of more accurate and interesting interpretation of Milosz’s literary work.
