The parish in Bargłów Kościelny, located within the borders of the then Augustowskie Province, constituted one of thousands of examples of parishes functioning on the territory of the Kingdom of Poland. In the examined period, it experienced a gradual economic development, which was reflected by the construction of economic facilities within the course of several years. The greater wealth of the parish was indirectly connected with the improving eco-nomic situation of the Polish land, which was recovering from the unfavourable Duchy of Warsaw period. The establishment of the economic background of the parish in Bargłów was strongly influenced by the parish priests, who were efficient administrators. In addition, the church in Bargłów owned large estate, which also exercised a considerable impact on its profitability. However, the development was impeded, to some extent, by the poor economic situation of the villages belonging to the parish, as they were not able to pay their tax dues to the church in full.
