The aim of the described analysis is characteristic of big bluestem as an energy crop. This is prairie grass with C4 type of photosynthesis, which is not popular species in Poland. The article is a review and the aim of this study on Andropogon gerardi was to show the possibilities of its usefulness as a biomass for bioenergy production in the Polish environmental conditions based on references reports. Slow growth rate after the winter and the ease of weeding of the plantation makes Andropogon gerardi a low-cost energy crop in polish conditions. In addition, the cost of plantation establishment in comparison with the shrubby willow was determined in order to check the profitability of its cultivation in Poland.
