In the 1840s English Gothic Revival movement arrived in historical Hungary with country houses in Rusovce (Oroszvar) by Franz Beer and Velke Uherce (Nagyugroc) by Alois Pichl, both of Austrian origin, in today's Slovakia and in Vep in today's Hungary as its early examples. The article examines their and some of their followers' (e.g. Parchovany/Parno, Ivanka pri Dunaji/Pozsonyivanka) historical and art historical background - origin of the style, bounds of the builders and architects with England, ideal models for the realizations, their characteristics, specialties etc.
