Although output gap belongs between important indicators of central banks, it is unobservable variable and it is difficult to measure it correctly. One of the methods of estimating output gap is structural VAR (SVAR) model. The purpose of this paper is analysis of SVAR models with two, three, four and five variables. It will be shown, that all four models will generate same business cycle and relative high correlation coefficient. Afterwards, output gaps estimated by SVAR models will be compared with output gap estimated by Hodrick-Prescott filter and it will be shown, that all five output gaps will generate the same cycle.

The article reveals one of the aspects of formation of the terminological system of the grammar of estimation. The term tonality is characterized, and variants of its interpretation in the researched direction are described. The modelling of estimative tonality is illustrated on the example of using verb forms (imperative, indicative, infinitive) with imperative meaning; the expression of estimative meanings is argued through the interaction of semantics of categoricalness, rudeness, alienation and negative estimation.

The main use of DEA is to calculate an estimate of the Farrell technical efficiency measure. By defining the statistical model, the stochastic version of the method is received, enabling us to derive the asymptotical form of sampling distribution of the estimate (called the DEA estimator). However, the distribution depends on unknown constants, which make deriving estimates of dispersion measures quite difficult. Thus, as an alternative, I used Simar and Wilson’s homogeneous bootstrap, a relatively simple and frequently used bootstrap procedure available in a software package for Frontier Efficiency Analysis with R (FEAR). The method is illustrated with an empirical example based on real data from the Polish energy sector.

This paper empirically verifies recent efforts of EU policymakers and government authorities to apply the European Cohesion Policy (ECP) as a possible counter-cyclical instrument to boost economies in their economic downturns. Compared to limited country-specific studies, we allow for an endogeneity issue between the business cycles and the ECP payments and apply a system GMM estimation for the EU-28 recipient countries sample in the time period 2000 – 2018. Even though the overall ECP payments follow a pro-cyclical path, the model estimations for the sub-periods based on individual programming periods reveal a time-varying cyclical character of the ECP. Whereas the observed pro-cyclicality can be mainly contributed to the period 2000 – 2006, we find the conditional counter-cyclical effects in 2007 – 2013 and 2014 – 2018, when a lower price level and obeying the rule of law seem to have an extra counter-cyclical dimension, confirming a rationale of the convergence criteria and the stability and the growth pact.
