The paper deals with the content of the theoretical and methodological courses in the Department of Ethnology and Ethnomusicology of the Faculty of Arts of the Konstantin Philosopher University in Nitra. The authors focus on the course 'History of anthropological thinking' which offers to the students review of the basic anthropological literature, which is supposed to help them in their further study and primary orientation in the problematic of ethnology and folkloristic. The students have to read and interpret texts which they are studying. The course 'Ethnology of contemporary art, film, documentary film, theater presentations and expositions' follows the course 'History of anthropological thinking'. The authors deal also with the content of the course 'Theory and methodology of anthropology', which aims at characterization of the key problems and basic fields of research of ethnology as well as social and cultural anthropology. They also pay attention to the analysis of the chosen sets of issues.
