The paper applies concepts of population dynamics on evolution of communication technologies. 'Lotka-Volterra' equations are applied to examine dynamics of the communication technologies in Slovakia and Czech Republic in 1948 - 2006. The fixed lines and mobile phones are considered predatory technologies hunting for their 'prey' - voice service subscribers. Cohabitation of two technologies is modeled within framework of full competition. Each technology squeezes out carrying capacity of its competitor. The mobile phones, however, exert considerable larger impact on the number of fixed telephone lines than vice versa. The paper also considers some limitations of the population dynamics approaches in economic modeling and discusses the different growth strategies by the particular types of technologies.

In this article the concept of institutional genotype is proposed taking into account reason-consequence connections and genetic relations in economical systems based on institutional, social-economical, evolutionary, and cultural factors. The category of institutions is researched in comparison with «genotype» in borders of organizational structure «phenotype» which is formed in evolution as the result of society genotype ancestral attributes interaction and institutional medium conditions. The similarity of institutions to genes and the mechanism of their development, copying, and the ways they influence individuals and organizations are analysed. Attention is concentrated on the fact that the socio-economic development and institutional changes are different in many aspects. This is due to a mismatch of the processes occurring in these systems. For a more thorough understanding of the concept of institutional genotype, the vertically-tier structure was analysed and «kleptocratic institutional genotype» was investigated, which dominates in the economy of Ukraine.

The study examines the side of Veblen's work in which this excellent theorist argued for a new scientific cognition, as an alternative to the mainstream scientific outlook of his age. This induced Veblen to prepare a clinical picture of economic man, and to outline a new, more authentic picture of mankind. This evolution-based picture of humanity is presented here. It also seeks to contribute to confirming that Veblen's ideas should not just be seen as durable for cognition efforts in the new millennium, but as having value in offering new directions for the renewal of economics.
