In the seasons 2004 and 2006, interdisciplinary researches at the settlement of the early phase of Eastern Linear Pottery Culture at Moravany were continued. Archaeological excavations have limited spatial dimension compared to previous seasons, as a priority in the years 2004-2006 was the completion of the palaeoeconomic, paleoenvironmental and chronological analyses. I.a. 14 new radiocarbon dates were obtained. In conjunction with the absolute dates obtained previously and with typological evidence it gives rise to dating of the settlement for a period between about 5500 and 5300/5200 BC.

Prompted by the discovery of a small workshop producing axes of red deer antler (the so-called T-shaped axes) at Bodzia, site 1 (Kuyavia), this paper addresses the issue of the origin and chronology of the said axes. In the first place, we shall present the inventory the workshop yielded and then analyse the distribution of T-shaped axes in Europe, especially in the European Lowland, in the context of antler production of the Late Mesolithic communities of the circa Baltic zone and the southern coasts of the North Sea and also within the Early Neolithic groups in Northern Europe. We shall also recount the discussion that has recently developed around this question

On the Bandkeramik (LBK) settlement of Rovancì in Volhynia two round valves of Spondylus gaederopus were discovered during a rescue excavation carried out in 2009. In the upper part of each of the artefacts two artificial holes with traces of suspension (grooves) can be observed. The two medallions were unearthed in the left longpit of an LBK longhouse. The find might be interpreted as depot or cenotaph. It substantially increases the extent of the Early Neolithic Spondylus long-distance exchange network. Furthermore, items made of Spondylus were apparently one of the commodities demonstrating status in Bandkeramik societies.

Rescue excavations on the Bandkeramik (LBK) settlement of Rovantsi in Volhynia brought to light several extraordinary objects such as two valves of Spondylus gaederopus and Šárka style pottery. Those discoveries reaffi rm the extent of the Early Neolithic long-distance exchange network, of which the easternmost LBK settlements once formed an integral part. A calvarium of a mature female was found in a pit at Rovantsi. Since skeletal remains of a Bandkeramik date are extremely rare in Ukraine, this discovery will be discussed in the following article.
