Rynek kart płatniczych rozwija się dynamicznie we wszystkich częściach świata. Rynek wymusza dostosowanie się do tego procesu również gospodarek, które wcześniej były centralnie sterowane. Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest próba porównania rozwoju rynku kart płatniczych w Polsce i w Chinach. Wykorzystane zostały dane statystyczne zgromadzone przez banki centralne. Badanie przeprowadzone zostało na podstawie kwartalnych szeregów czasowych z lat 2008-2016. Przedmiotem rozważań są liczebność kart płatniczych oraz intensywność ich stosowania w związku z rozwojem niezbędnej do tego infrastruktury. Radykalna różnica wielkości Polski i Chin powoduje konieczność zastosowania rozwiązań wykorzystujących charakterystyki ilościowe rynków, wyrażone per capita oraz miary intensywności, które cechują się porównywalnością wyników.

The widespread computerization of life results in replacement of the traditional paper money with “plastic” money, in the form of payment cards. The card market has been expanding dynamically in all parts of the world. The market also forces the economies that previously were centrally controlled to adapt to this process. The subject of this paper is an attempt to compare the development of the payment card markets in Poland and China. The statistical data collected by the central banks and describing these markets will be used. The study will be based on the quarterly time series from 2008 to 2016. The subject of the discussion will be the number of payment cards and the intensity of their use, in connection with the development of the necessary infrastructure. The radically different sizes of Poland and China make it necessary to apply solutions that use the quantitative market characteristics, per capita and the intensity measures, making it possible to receive comparable results.
