Despite the growing success of media literacy in eating disorder prevention programs there is a lack of research on the role of media literacy in eating disorder treatment. This pilot study extends previous research through the creation and implementation of the ERA (educationrecognition-activism) curriculum, which was comprised of four-weekly, 50-minute group sessions where participants in treatment for eating disorders explored the tenets of critical media literacy, reflected on their emotional responses to media, considered how dominant media messages and social forces conflicted with personal goals for a healthy life, and engaged in activism by writing letters to organizations that contributed to or challenged toxic media culture. More specifically, this study explores the perceived value and enjoyment of the ERA curriculum in eating disorder treatment. Participant perception of media literacy as valuable and enjoyable is significant because it has the potential to combat the ambivalence and resistance that is common among individuals in eating disorder treatment and hinders recovery. Overall, the findings suggest that moving beyond prevention initiatives and incorporating critical media literacy into eating disorder treatment may be beneficial to the recovery process.

Artykuł podejmuje analizę rozmywającej się obecnie opozycji między produkcją a konsumpcją. Proces ten znany jest pod nazwą prosumpcji. Jego odzwierciedleniem są praktyki wpisujące się w koncepcję Do it yourself oraz formy zbiorowej działalności użytkowników sieci internetowej (crowdsourcing). Potencjał prosumpcji nie jest jednoznacznie oceniany. Z jednej strony w środowiskach naukowych do głosu dochodzą teoretycy, którzy przypisują prosumpcji pozytywny wpływ na relacje społeczne m.in. poprzez proces uprawomocnienia konsumentów (empowerment) w relacjach biznes-konsument. Z drugiej z kolei strony nie można ignorować głosów krytycznych wobec tej koncepcji, dostrzegających w niej formę cyfrowego wyzysku członków danej społeczności. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja wyważonego stanowiska względem zjawiska prosumpcji w sieci. Tłem rozważań są zmiany w zakresie postrzegania tego zjawiska ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem relacji rynkowych. Pierwsza część artykułu poświęcona jest uporządkowaniu terminologii związanej z prosumpcją, w drugiej części autorka przedstawia aktualne, najważniejsze argumenty podnoszone zarówno przez sceptyków, jak i entuzjastów prosumpcji.

The article addresses the issue of the ever more blurred distinction between production and consumption. This process, known as prosumption, is best reflected by do-it-yourself activities and various collective actions undertaken by the community of Internet users (crowdsourcing). There is no agreement on how big is prosumption’s potential. On the one hand, many theorists representing the academic world point out its positive influence on social relations, for instance through the empowerment of consumers. On the other hand, however, many critical opinions are being voiced by people who consider prosumption as a form of digital exploitation of a given society’s members. This article aims to formulate the most balanced stance in the discussion on prosumption. Changes in the way this phenomenon has been approached will also be discussed, with special emphasis on market relations. In the first part of the text the author presents prosumption-related terminology, while in the second one, she gives an account of the arguments most frequently formulated by both its sceptics and enthusiasts.

There has been an increase in the occurrence of natural disasters and their impact has aroused the interest of many stakeholders to incorporate different strategies on disaster management. Although disasters may end many opportunities and lives, the lives of survivors do not cease in the disaster affected areas. The impact of natural disasters and the consequent partial reconstruction efforts have specifically presented many challenges to women. In this context, the main research investigates the empowerment of women during post disaster reconstruction particularly in Sri Lanka.Among the factors that influence women's empowerment, existing policies and frameworks is one of the important factors that can play a major role within the post disaster reconstruction in Sri Lanka. Hence, in order to gain an understanding of the existing framework of women's empowerment, this study investigates the national and international policies and frameworks that exist within the post disaster context in Sri Lanka. The study found that even though polices are gender neutral, they are not gender sensitive. In addition, it was found that having a single policy or framework for the whole country is unlikely to be a success, therefore, any frameworks should have room to be adopted to the local situation.

Stichinių nelaimių padaugėjo, taigi dėl jų poveikio daug interesų grupių susidomėjo, kaip nelaimėms valdyti pasitelkti įvairias strategijas. Nors nelaimės atima daug galimybių ir gyvybių, išlikusieji tebegyvena nelaimės nuniokotose teritorijose. Dėl stichinių nelaimių poveikio ir po jų vykstant daliniams atstatymo darbams, ypač daug sunkumų kyla moterims. Atsižvelgiant į tai, pagrindiniame tyrime nagrinėjamas didesnių teisių suteikimas moterims vykstant atstatymo po nelaimių darbams, ypač Šri Lankoje. Be kitų veiksnių, kurie daro įtaką suteikiant didesnes teises moterims, svarbi yra politika ir gairės, o jų reikšmė Šri Lankoje atstatant nelaimės nuniokotas vietoves gali būti didžiulė. Taigi siekiant suprasti esamas didesnių teisių suteikimo moterims gaires, šiame tyrime nagrinėjama nacionalinė ir tarptautinė politika bei gairės, Šri Lankoje taikomos darbų po nelaimių kontekste. Tyrime nustatyta, kad net jei politika pirmenybės neteikia nė vienai lyčiai, į lytims svarbius klausimus ji neatsižvelgia. Be to, nustatyta, kad visoje šalyje taikant vieną politiką arba gaires vargu ar galima tikėtis sėkmės. Taigi visose gairėse reikia numatyti galimybių jas priderinti prie vietinės situacijos.

Employee empowerment and continuance commitment are two concepts that are of significance to all modern corporate entities. A robust appreciation and application of employee empowerment will contribute in measurable respects to the growth and sustainability of various organizations and continuance commitment of their employ-ees. This study is an assessment of the relationship and the effect of employee empow-erment on continuance commitment in the Nigerian manufacturing industry. A cross-sectional survey design method was adopted and data was collected via a survey of three hundred and three (303) respondents randomly selected from a population of 1243 employees of 25 manufacturing companies in Delta State, Nigeria. Data collect-ed were analyzed using Spearman’s Rank Correlation and linear regression analysis with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23. The results of the study showed that there is significant relationship between employee empowerment and continuance commitment. As predicted, the study also revealed that employee empowerment exerts a positive and statistically significant effect on continuance commitment in manufacturing companies in Delta State, Nigeria. Based on these find-ings, we conclude that employee empowerment has significant influence on continu-ance commitment. The study therefore recommends among others that management of manufacturing companies in Nigeria should grant their employees power to initiate change, thereby encouraging them to take charge of their work tasks. Istotne uznanie i zastosowanie upodmiotowienia pracownika znacząco wpływa na wzrost i równowagę różnych organizacji oraz potrzebę kontynuowania pracy dla organizacji zatrudnionych tam pracowników. To badanie stanowi ocenę zależności i wpływu upodmiotowienia pracownika na potrzebę kontynuowania pracy dla organizacji w nigeryjskim przemyśle wytwór-czym. Została wykorzystana metoda przekrojowego badania ankietowego. Dane zostały zebrane w badaniu sondażowym trzystu trzech respondentów dobranych losowo z populacji 1243 pracowników zatrudnionych w 25 zakładach produkcyjnych w Stanie Delta w Nigerii. Zebrane dane zostały przeanalizowane z wykorzystaniem korelacji Spearmana oraz regresji liniowej za pomocą SPSS 23 version. Wyniki badań wskazały istotną zależność między upodmiotowienie pracownika i potrzebą kontynuowania pracy dla organizacji. Jak przewidywano badanie ujawniło również, że upodmiotowienie pracownika wywołuje pozytywny i znaczący statystycznie wpływ na potrzebę kontynuowania pracy dla organizacji w zakładach produkcyjnych w Stanie Delta w Nigerii. W oparciu o te wyniki można podsumować, że upodmiotowienie pracownika ma znaczący wpływ na potrzebę kontynuowania pracy dla organizacji. Zatem zalecenia to między innymi zapewnienie przez menedżerów zakładów produkcyjnych w Nigerii możliwości wykorzystania prawa do wprowadzania zmian, a tym samym umożliwienie pracownikom wzięcia odpowiedzialności za swoje zadania pracownicze. W artykule przedstawiono istotę oraz podstawową charakterystykę upodmiotowienia pracowników (empowerment). Wskazano na jego znaczenie w budowaniu przewagi konkurencyjnej opartej na zarządzaniu relacjami tak z klientami, jaki i pracownikami. Cel ten zrealizowano poprzez ukazanie związków pomiędzy stosowaniem podejścia umożliwiającego pracownikom samorealizację w miejscu pracy a zwiększeniem poziomu zaangażowania i wykorzystania drzemiących w zasobach ludzkich wiedzy i umiejętności. Praktyczną ilustrację tego mechanizmu przedstawiono na przykładzie zastosowania upodmiotowienia pracowników w firmie Instalcompact Sp. z o.o.

The article introduces the idea and basic characteristics of employee empowerment and highlights its role in achieving competitive advantage based on customer and employee relationship management. This goal is met by showing interdependencies between employee self-actualization and engagement unlocking potential of relationship-oriented organization. Due to the emergence of new social problems resulting from weakening pro-integration moods regarding culturally, ethnically, or religiously diverse societies, the Acting in Context by Training the Trainers in Social Empowerment (ACTTE) project was prepared and implemented. The Polish National Agency of Academic Exchange (NAWA) financed the project as part of the International Academic Partnerships program. The project goals were: 1) shaping competencies/skills in the field of DPA (Developing the Power to Act) in organized training participants (NGO employees and academic teachers), 2) developing tools for intervention work based on the concept of Empowerment. Within the training, the research was carried out based on the action research methodology and the use of scaling and uncategorized interview. The article presents the excerpt of the research, which was aimed at determining the changes in the competencies related to the use of the DPA approach in the project’s participants, as well as their subjective understanding of the DPA. The presented research results show the legitimacy of the project implementation by partner institutions, which are universities and non-governmental organizations. The competences and skills acquired by the project participants can be used in academic and environmental work.
