Badania naukowe, nowe technologie i innowacje mają kluczowe znaczenie dla dokonującej się w Unii Europejskiej (UE) transformacji energetycznej w kierunku gospodarki niskoemisyjnej (low-carbon economy). Celem niniejszego opracowania jest przedstawienie działań podjętych w UE na rzecz zmian technologicznych i innowacyjnych związanych z gospodarowaniem energią sformułowanych w strategii unii energetycznej. W wyniku analizy pozytywnie zweryfikowano tezę o znaczącej roli Unii Europejskiej w dziedzinie technologii wykorzystania czystej energii oraz innowacji energetycznych na globalnym rynku. W artykule wykorzystano literaturę przedmiotu, poddano badaniu unijne dokumenty dotyczące polityki energetycznej i klimatycznej w Unii Europejskiej, regulacje prawne, raporty i opracowania branżowe.

Research, new technologies and innovation are crucial for the transformation of the European Union towards a low carbon economy. This paper presents the activities undertaken by the European Union for sustainable development in the area of energy and climate. As a result of the analysis, the thesis on the significant role of the European Union was positively verified in the field of clean energy technology and global energy innovation market. The analysis used the literature of the subject, analyzed EU projects and documents on energy and climate policy in the European Union, regulations, reports and industry studies.
