The subject of this article presents selected aspects of the legal problems according to Isidore of Seville. The starting point of the analysis consists of a brief characterization of his Etymology, a work considered as the first encyclopedia of Christianity. This device allows to better examine the place of legal issues in the structure of the work. The author then presents the organization, division, and characteristics of the legal material in Book V. De legibus, also referred to as the Treatise on Law. The following paragraph discusses the legal issues included by Sevillian in other chapters of the Etymology.

KUL Library constitutes an excellent workplace for scholars from many fields, including theologians, historians, philologists who study the achievements of Isidore of Seville - a great erudite, author of the famous Etymologiae, an outstanding teacher and tutor of medieval Europe. The library collection includes all his scriptures, edited by J.P. Migne (volumes 81-83 of Patrologiae Latinae), also in the form of critical editions in recent collections and series. In addition, it has numerous publications, although published before 1990, dedicated to the life and legacy of Isidore, primarily by J. Fontaine, as well as the works referring to the times and cultural environment of the encyclopaedist. Isidore was a compiler, so it is crucial for a researcher dealing with Isidore to be acquainted with his sources - works of classical authors and Christians, Greek and Latin writers and poets, which are also in the collections of KUL Library. The Bishop of Seville’s knowledge was of a literary character, but related to God and the whole world created by him. The library contains the literature necessary for the researcher, who, wishing to understand Isidore-a specialist, should educate himself in these fields of knowledge on which Isidore worked. Difficulties arising from the lack of necessary publications in the library are effectively resolved by taking advantage of the effectively functioning Interlibrary Loan. In recent years, KUL Library has been enriched with modern tools such as the Electronic Card Catalog and Digital Library. Providing access to scientific databases enables readers to find works on Isidore, which are written in the most remote corners of our planet. The staff of the Library deserve special gratitude. They are consistently competent, helpful and dedicated to their work. Their knowledge and kindness are the second – apart from the extensive collection - magnet which attracts numerous readers (also the ones working on Isidore) to KUL Library from all over the country.
