In the study the author presents new, alternative to currently applied, method of describing segments of the Polish pension system. He distinguishes and describes the criteria, which serve to differentiate the levels of pension system. Next, with the aid of subjective criterion (being used (known) for classic model of pension system) and financial method criterion (applied in Poland from the beginning of the reform started in 1999), he proposes the model of four-pillar pension system.
