Jednym z czynników implikujących przeobrażenia na światowych rynkach finansowych jest proces globalizacji i związany z tym proces integracji krajowych rynków finansowych. U podłoża tych zjawisk leży liberalizacja i deregulacja oraz postęp techniczny, które w zasadniczy sposób wpływają na zmianę charakteru działania instytucji finansowych. W artykule podjęto próbę krótkiego, syntetycznego scharakteryzowania zjawisk kształtujących współczesny system finansowy ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem problemów definicyjnych. Zasygnalizowano też niektóre skutki opisywanych procesów dla konkurencji na rynku finansowym.

One of the factors implicating the transformations in the world financial markets is a process of globalization and connected with it the process of integration of domestic financial markets. At the bottom of this phenomenon lie the liberalization and the deregulation as well as the technical progress which have influence on the change of financial institutions` activities in a fundamental way. In the article there has been taken on a trial of a short synthetic characteristic of occurrences shaping the contemporary financial system with a special taking into consideration the defining problems. There have been also signalled some effects of describing processes for the competition in the financial markets.
