The seriousness of the last financial crises and difficulties in explaining its spread have led to the discussion about new phenomena known as "financial contagion". This paper studies rational channels through which contagion might have spread and highlights those factors which make a country susceptible to contagion. The rational channels studied in the paper are contagion via real sector linkages, financial market linkages, financial institution linkages, and through the interaction of financial institutions and financial markets. As a main reason of the contagion, the "finacialisation" of economies has been pointed out. It makes financial sector responsible for the most systematic instabilities in global economies. It results also in common replacing general description of "contagion" phenomena with its narrower term "financial contagion". Some rationale of that type of contagion was also discussed with following eventual conclusion, that simplification of financial sector and putting it back to the subordinated role to real economy, is the only way of making the unavoidable phenomena less destructive.

The article presents the nature of financial statements audits and the audit risks involved. It analyses the risks which must be considered by the auditor in the analysis of the financial statements and the interactions between the particular risk categories (i.e. the audit risk, the risk of material misstatem ent and the detection risk). It also concentrates on the risks usually omitted in the literature but which must be considered by the financial statements’ readers which use the financial statements in the business decisionmaking processes. The article questions the generally accepted financial statements audit model due to the significant concentration of risk resulting from the sample-based approach and the professional judgment applied by the auditor as well as resulting from the factors affecting the auditor’s independence.

The paper discusses the problem of model risk, defined as risk resulting from the application of wrong model in real world. Three sources of model risk are distinguished: risk related to the structure of the model, risk of model estimation and risk connected with the application of the model. The main part of the paper presents the measures that can be used to evaluate risk of model estimation. Two particular cases are solved. The first one is the construction of two stock portfolio with minimal risk, the second one is option pricing. In both cases estimation risk results from the fact that main parameter, which is volatility (standard deviation if returns), has to be estimated. Zmiany, jakie wprowadzają ramy Bazylei III skłaniają do zastanowienia się nad wpływem, jaki nowe regulacje, a w szczególności te dotyczące płynności, będą miały na sektor bankowy. Wprowadzenie nowych mierników płynnościowych, w przypadku polskiego rynku, zmusi banki do pozyskania znacznej kwoty aktywów wysokiej jakości, a konieczność osiągnięcia odpowiedniego poziomu wskaźników ograniczy znacząco podaż kredytów.

The changes introduced by Basel III framework tend to reflect on the impact that new regulations, particularly those relating to liquidity will have on a banking sector. Implementation of new liquidity measures, in the case of Polish market will force banks to raise a substantial amount of high quality assets while the need to achieve an adequate indicators' level will significantly reduce the supply of credit. These indicators, although transparent are not able to capture the specificity of the banks and the market in which they operate. The aim of the article is to present the current methods of risk measurement: those introduced by EU guidelines, as well as those that have been implemented only on the Polish market. Separately the role of funds transfer pricing will be presented and their application to estimate the costs and benefits of liquidity.
