Objawienia w Fatimie są wyjątkowe w historii objawień i jedyne tego rodzaju w objawieniach maryjnych, gdyż rzeczywistość, której dotyczą, jest niepowtarzalna w dziejach ludzkości. Jan Paweł II, nazywając je „orędziem wieku”, mówił, że jest ono dziś jeszcze bardziej aktualne i bardziej naglące niż kiedykolwiek. Maryja, objawiając się sześciokrotnie trójce dzieci: Łucji, Franciszkowi i Hiacyncie w Fatimie, a potem jeszcze dwukrotnie s. Łucji w Pontevedra i Tuy, stale nawoływała do rozwijania życia duchowego, do dobrowolnego powrotu do Boga, do zadośćuczynienia za wszystkie grzechy przeciw Sercu Jezusa i Maryi.
