Pokój we współczesnym świecie nie jest oczywisty, gdyż stale ulega różnorakim zagrożeniom spowodowanym toczącymi się konfliktami, działaniami terrorystycznymi i nieustannym łamaniem podstawowych praw człowieka. Wielu rządzących, a także środowiska dyplomatyczne i opiniotwórcze coraz częściej odwołują się do przysłowia: „Jeśli chcesz pokoju, przygotuj się do wojny”. Słowa te rodzą niepokój wśród wielu osób i pobudzają do refleksji nad poszukiwaniem rozwiązań o charakterze niemilitarnym. Z pomocą przychodzi nauczanie Jana Pawła II, które pomaga w poszukiwaniach odpowiednich rozwiązań. Jednym z nich jest modlitwa o pokój, która stanowi pierwszy etap na drodze do jego uznania i osiągnięcia. Dzięki modlitwie człowiek przyczynia się do budowy nowej wizji pokoju opartej na solidarnym współdziałaniu i braterskiej jedności.

Peace is not an obvious thing in a modern world. It is permanently at risk from conflict, terrorism and constant breaking of the basic human rights. Many of those in power, diplomats and leaders are heard quoting, with increasing frequency, the Latin proverb: Si vis pacem, para bellum (If you want peace, prepare for war). These words bring disquiet to many and stimulate reflection on seeking non-military solutions. Teaching of John Paul II helps in this search for possible solutions. Praying for peace is the first step on the road to accept and achieve peace. Prayer helps people contribute to the creation of a new vision of peace, based on acting together and brotherly unity of human beings.

Der Frieden in der modernen Welt ist nicht offensichtlich, weil es ständig vielfältige Bedrohungen durch laufende Konflikte, terroristische Aktivitäten und Verletzung der Grundrechte des Menschen ausgesetzt ist. Aus dem Mund von vielen Herrschern in diplomatischen Kreisen und Meinungsmachern fällt zunehmend das lateinisches Sprichwort “Wenn du den Frieden willst, bereite den Krieg vor”. Diese Worte führen dazu, dass bei vielen Menschen Angst und Reflexionen auf der Suche nach einer nicht militärische Lösung stimuliert werden. Mit der Lehre von Johannes Paul II kommt Hilfe bei der Suche nach geeigneten Lösungen. Eine davon ist das Gebet für den Frieden. Es ist der erste Schritt auf dem Weg zur Anerkennung und Erfolge des Friedens. Dank dem Gebet trägt man zum Aufbau einer neuen Vision des Friedens auf der Grundlage von sich gegenseitig unterstützenden Individuen und brüderlicher Einheit.
