Starting with Erich Fromm’s thesis on love from his seminal work The Art of Loving (1956), the paper tries to show the way in which Fromm’s psycho-biological concept of love is represented differently in different historical formations in Andrić’s historical novel The Bridge on the Drina (1945). A brief analysis of the three love relations from Andrić’s novel reveals the process of the appearance of the concept of modern love, the moment in which love ceases to be a social instancje and becomes an individual act.

The article aims to demonstrate the naturalistic tendencies of Erich Fromm’s research that are apparent in his interpretations of the fragments of the Old Testament relating to the Sabbath and describing the fall of Adam and Eve. Erich Fromm finds a natural ally for his naturalistic tendencies in Zen Buddhism. In Fromm’s thought both naturalism and Zen Buddhism interpreted naturalistically join with Jacob Bachofen’s theory of matriarchate.

he aim of this paper is to portray the influences of cultural processes on the professional and family life of the modern, Western societies. The text contains the review of the literature on the subject depicting the symptoms of reconciling career with family life. With reference to the analyses conducted by Erich Fromm and Theodore Brameld, a diagnosis of social conditions contributing to disorders of the work – family life balance is put forward. The summary embraces number of conclusions that should be addressed to the overall sphere of education. Consequently, the purpose of the teachers’ work should not exclusively concern relaying specialist knowledge to pupils whom which they teach, nor preparing young people to the work, as the key task is rather to „teach human beings how to be a man, how to reach the level of a complete, coherent personality at peace with others”. Thus, in order to support a well-balanced functioning of the society, education must have an effective influence on the process of establishing standards of the „art of being” in world of the daily life.

Goethe wrote: „Mankind walks steadily forward, but the person remains the same”. Customs as a normative tradition ways of behavior are the important social community and have the power to unwritten laws. Are primarily transmitted orally or by imitation, once established are very slow to change. The article discusses the problem of looking at the reality of the two opposite poles.
