The authoress of this article follows the opinion that aspectual analysis must contain various elements: verbal lexeme, tense morpheme, presence or absence of the object, temporal or frequency adverbs. These elements, combined with each other, either create a new meaning, different from the one of the verbal lexeme or do not. The authoress examines the function of the French adverb 'toujours', translated into Polish by 'zawsze', in this combination of aspectual elements. In the case of present tense there is a sort of adequacy between French and Polish. Nevertheless, in the case of past tenses there is not: Polish word chain past imperfective verb + 'zawsze' corresponds to two different French combinations: passé composé verb + 'toujours' and imparfait verb + 'toujours'.
