The Y Generation is a generation of young people twenty to thirty years of age (born after 1980). They grew up in a free–market economy at a time of communication and digital technologies development. Today, they are entering the labor market and will become its main driving force over the upcoming years. The specific traits, needs, values, and expectations of representatives of the new generation require a change in approach to them as employees and the application of management techniques that differ from traditional ways of managing people. Recognition and comprehension of the attitude of the Y Generation towards professional work will make it possible for organizations to create motivating employment offers and build the engagement of young workers. The purpose of this research was to identify the expectations of the Y Generation with respect to professional work and the employer.

On the basis of empirical studies and available sources, the author presents tourism as undertaken by young Poles from Generation Y, with reference to demographic, and above all generational changes. She focuses on presenting tourism preferences and typical behaviour. The analysis shows that their behaviour is similar to those observed by Generation Y globally. The similarities are also visible in tourism - new, post-modernist trends, such as gap year and internet couch surfing portals, as forms of independent travel organization, are becoming more and more popular. On the other hand, the consumptionist habits of Generation Y (preferences for comfort and entertainment), as well as an orientation towards family and friends, frequently travelling companions, can also be observed

The article’s subject matter is the problems of attitudes of Polish and foreign students as well as post-graduates, representatives of the generation Y, towards academic teachers aged 65+. The article consists of the theoretical part, where the author analyses the problems of attitudes and stereotypes towards mature individuals, and the empirical one, devoted to discussion of the findings of surveys carried out in the group of 344 respondents, students of public and non-public, Polish and foreign, universities as well as post-graduates. The obtained research findings indicate the diversified perception of knowledge workers, the academic teachers, by representatives of the generation Y. They confirm the previously formulated thesis of the non-homogeneity of this generation. However, the obtained data generally do not empower to ascertain the existence of negative stereotypes in case of the generation Y in terms of their perception of mature people, their lecturers.

This article investigates the problem of Polish and South Korean Millennials’ consumer behaviour on the e-commerce market. There were arguments about whether Generation Y members as Digital Natives are rather a coherent or diversified cohort of consumers. They were raised in the culturally diversified world, but the trend of globalization and the use of the Internet may in fluence their consumer behaviour in a similar way. The aim of this paper is to reveal particular patterns crucial to understanding their way of making an online purchase. An online survey was conducted among Polish and South Korean respondents from Generation Y in order to investigate this issue. Besides being the representatives of culturally distant cultures, the two groups from the research sample revealed mostly convergent preferences and attitudes towards making an online purchase. Also, Polish and South Korean respondents revealed different attitudes online and of fline, when compared to the cohort general analysis. In terms of making an online purchase via their mobile phones, Poles and Koreans remained coherent outside their national group and diversified inside their national group in terms of e-commerce but patterns slightly differed. Since this research was limited by too general e-commerce context, the aspect of making m-purchase should be investigated in the future.

By 2025, representatives of Generation Y, the so-called Millennials, will have constituted 75% of the total workforce in the world. Numerous studies pertaining to the generation’s characteristics paint a picture of an exceptional generation, one which is troublesome to HR managers. Due to the emergence of several studies associated with Generation Y employees, frequently journalistic in nature, an attempt at the characterisation of the generation’s competence potential was made. The current paper presents results of self-reports of 634 Polish Generation Y employees.

This paper deals with digital literacy, which helps develop generation Y’s skills and competencies. The aim of this paper is, based on a questionnaire survey, to obtain information on the digital literacy of Generation Y in the Trenčín region (Slovak Republic) and the Zlín region (Czech Republic) and whether these regions help to increase Generation Y´s digital competences. Also, analyse and compare specific survey results in each region and, based on the obtained data, prepare recommendations that would be generally applicable not only for the selected regions from the survey but also for other regions. Before starting our marketing research, we set research questions and hypotheses, which we justify and statistically verify in this article’s empirical part. Based on our findings, there is no statistically significant relationship between sex and learning new digital media of Generation Y. According to our findings, Generation Y is interested in learning about digital media, but none of the regions studied offers sufficient development opportunities.

Aim/purpose – The main objective of the paper is to explore mobility choices of Generation Y in Poland to check if they can be translated into guidelines for the development of mobility services. Design/methodology/approach – In the paper, two research methods were used. First of them was an analysis of the literature related to Generation Y mobility according to Denyer & Tranfield (2009) approach. The main research method was the survey method. Respondents were recruited with use of purposive strategy and snowball approach. Data gathered in this study allowed for statistical analysis, mostly related to variables in ordinal and nominal scales. Findings – The main findings concern the general priorities of Generation Y and gender differences. The study presents the relation of generational features and mobility behaviours, comparing them to those identified in the literature. The causes of such differences need to be widely discussed in the next papers, which draws some possible future research directions. Research implications/limitations – A main limitation of the research is the chosen sampling strategy (non-random sampling) and risk related to non-inclusion of the important literature in the analysed database. Originality/value/contribution – This research shows the characteristics of the Polish Generation Y’s mobility choices. This is the first summary in the literature on this topic and can be used both by academic staff and practitioners. It extends the current literature by summarising available literature on the mobility of the young adults and results from different research methods, approaches, research procedures, research samples and geographical areas.

This paper focuses on the current generations: the Baby Boomers, X, Y and Z in the context of human capital management of the 21st century in selected corporations in the Czech Republic. The turbulent developments as a result of industrialization, modernization and globalization has created differences between generations. The aim of this article is to compare the selected characteristics of each generation of employees in Czech corporate practice and to reflect on whether there are more efficient means for personnel managers to handle them accordingly. This article presents some of the results of quantitative and qualitative research conducted in selected companies in the Czech Republic. The research group that took part in the questionnaire survey included 182 human resources professionals from selected Czech companies with responsibility for 3,182 employees. The research results reflect the differences in the perceptions of HR professionals and the employees themselves with regards to the selected characteristics attributed to each generation. As a result, key motivational factors could be identified and prioritized for each generation. The HR professionals perceived Generation Z to be employees that are not very loyal and lack emotional intelligence. However, they are perceived to possess high levels of Internet literacy and the ability to adapt quickly to new technologies, which enables them to operate more efficiently.

A young consumer (Generation Y) remains under constant inflence of social media, which includes increasing power of online consumer groups, through which they acquire new knowledge about the market, marketing practices (not always honest), the process of preparing new products (not always in ethical way). The article presents changes in the purchasing process of the youngest consumers adult generation, today’s 20- and 30-year-olds. The article is based on the results of qualitative research (the focused group interviews, ethnography of purchasing processes and virtual ethnography) conducted in 2013–2016.
