Kard. J. Glemp, jako prymas Polski, przejawiał głębokie zatroskanie o życie duchowe i społeczne wiernych na Pomorzu Zachodnim, tj. na ziemiach nad Odrą i Bałtykiem. Świadczy o tym zarówno liczba wizyt w tym regionie, jak i waga słów, które kierował do wiernych w czasie tych spotkań. Wielokrotne przybywanie na te ziemie (29 razy, w tym 16 razy na teren archidiecezji szczecińsko-kamieńskiej i 13 razy na teren diecezji koszalińsko-kołobrzeskiej) oraz ranga podejmowanych przez niego tematów w oficjalnych przemówieniach – takich, jak: potrzeba poznawania przez wiernych historii regionu i budowania na tym lokalnego patriotyzmu, konieczność wierności wartościom ewangelicznym jako sposób osiągnięcia szczęścia wiecznego i w końcu rozbudzanie regionalnych form nabożeństwa ku czci Najświętszej Maryi Panny – aż nadto potwierdzają jego wrażliwość na sytuację materialną, społeczną i moralną ludzi tych ziem i jednoznacznie wskazują na jego poczucie odpowiedzialności za tożsamość narodową i duchową tego regionu Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, tj. na północno-zachodnich jej rubieżach usytuowanych nad Odrą i Bałtykiem.

Cardinal Józef Glemp, as the Primate of Poland, showed deep concern about the spiritual and social life of the faithful in Western Pomerania, i.e. the lands on the Odra River and the Baltic Sea. This is evidenced by both the number of His visits to the faithful of these lands and the gravity of the words He addressed to them during these meetings. Multiple arrivals to these lands (29 times, including 16 times to the Szczecin-Kamień Archdiocese and 13 times to the Koszalin-Kołobrzeg Diocese) and the gravity of the issues taken by Him in His official speeches, such as: the need to explore the region’s history and build on this the local patriotism by the faithful, and the need for fidelity to the Gospel values as a way of achieving eternal happiness, and finally awakening the regional forms of service in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary, confirm more than enough His sensitivity to the material, social and moral situation of people of these lands and clearly show His sense of responsibility for the national and spiritual identity of this region of the Republic of Poland, i.e. on its north-western fringes located on the Odra River and the Baltic Sea.

Miłość i miłosierdzie są dwoma wymiarami jednej łaski: miłość Boża stwarza, a miłosierdzie Boże – oczyszcza i doskonali naturę człowieka. Miłosierdzie jest więc warunkiem doprowadzenia człowieka do uczestniczenia w naturze Bożej. Mówiąc krótko: stwarza człowieka miłość, a zbawia miłosierdzie.

God’s Mercy never threatens man’s dignity. It elevates human dignity to the Divine level of “second creation.” This is a kind of “divinization” of man, in which human love is transformed by the Divine mercy into closeness to God. Divine Mercy compensates all human imperfections – not only sins, but all kinds of weakness and limitations of the person’s existence. This is how love and mercy are in the heart of the relationship between God and man. Love and mercy are two aspects of one grace: The grace of Divine Love gives life, while the grace of Divine Mercy purifi es and perfects human nature. Therefore, Divine Mercy is a precondition on human participation in the nature of God. To put it briefl y, man is created through love and saved through mercy.
