Different sources are used in biographical studies of various social groups. Similarly, for teachers you can also use a variety of materials. As far as teachers are concerned, these will be personal files, reports of pedagogical councils, as well as various questionnaires filled out for the needs of the authorities conducting or supervising. In the last case, there are, for example, questionnaries drawn up by the School Inspectorate in Gorzów, which teachers working in this city and the region were obliged to complete in 1950. Based on their analysis, you can create a certain picture of this professional group on many levels. These include, for example, age, origin and education. These questionnaires also include information on the employment of teachers, either before 1939 or during the Second World War, as well as after its completion. Additional information is forms of social involvement, and belonging to various social, professional or political parties. Questionnaries also include data on prizes and rewards. All this gives the opportunity to elaborate a certain picture of this social group. Of course, this material is the introduction to wider research on this professional group, not only in Gorzów, but also wider - regional or nationwide.
Work as a human activity is one of the fundamental factors shaping the stability of society and an individual life. Unemployment as a phenomenon closely related to work is an element of destabilization and risk. Firstly, this article presents a theoretical analysis of both phenomena, and then indicates its specific fluctuations in a specific area of the country. This analysis is based on data provided by the Poviat Labor Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski.

The article aims to present the presence of Polish Tatars in the Western Territories and examples of their participation in Gorzów Wielkopolski. Attention was paid to social, local and religious activities. Although their number was small, Tatars tried to mark their presence in Gorzów. The activity and involvement of representatives of this group in creating the image of Gorzów has been permanently recorded in the history of the town. For many dwellers Rozalia Aleksandrowicz or Elżbieta Włodarczyk are figures whose engagements in the town were evident and allowed to know Tatars, their culture, tradition or cuisine better. The complex fate of the commune in Gorzów as well as its various courses were reflected in functioning of their representatives and their activities in the town. The presence of Tatars in Gorzów Wielkopolski has become an inherent part of building the history of the town and its multicultural image. It is a pity that they are “vanishing” from the town image of which they are co-originators.
Obecnie w Gorzowie mieszka zaledwie kilka rodzin tatarskich.

After the Second World War, many Tatars living in Nowogródek in the eastern flanks of the pre-war Poland, were resettled to Wielkopolska, especially to Gorzów Wielkopolski. There they eagerly cooperated with the ingenious population in shaping up of the post-war history of the town. Most of them occupied Janice district, nicknamed by their neighbours Tatar Hillocks. The name has caught on, and is today synonymous with the Tatar presence in Gorzów Wielkopolski; indeed, in the entire Wielkopolska (Greater Poland/Western Lands). It was also the seat of the Muzułmańska Gmina Wyznaniowa (Muslim Religious Commune). Notable representatives of the Muslim community in Gorzów Wielkopolski were imam Bekir Radkiewicz and Rozalia Aleksandrowicz. The latter was the last head of the Muslim Commune in Gorzów Wielkopolski. After its dissolution, local members found themselves at the margins of the Tatar society in Poland. Today, there are only a handful of Tatar families in Gorzów Wielkopolski.

The article discusses the fate of Tatars in the Polish People’s Republic (PPR). Early Muslim communes were established after 1945 as an effect of the so-called repatriation action, i.e. the resettlement of the Polish population from the territories annexed by the Soviet Union to the new Western Lands disconnected from Germany. The author concentrates on presenting the history of Polish Tatars who came from the former Nowogródek province and settled in the new north-western provinces. He devotes a good deal of attention to Gorzów Wielkopolski, which for many years was the largest agglomeration and centre of cultural life of Polish Tatars in the PPR. According to the 1965 census, almost half of the Tatar population of north-western Poland lived in Gorzów. Another census conducted in 1985 showed a significant decrease in the number of Gorzów Tatars. It was a constant tendency, which at the beginning of the 21st century led to the suspension of the commune in Gorzów. However, as the author shows, Polish Tatars – although scattered in many cities (Szczecin, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Białystok) – are still present in the life of our country.

The objective of the study is analysis of the collective memory of the inhabitants of Gorzów Wielkopolski – one of the two capital cities of the Lubusz Voivodship. Due to its border location, as well as an ethnically and culturally complex social structure, this city is an interesting case study of the formation of historical awareness on a local scale. The scientific problem involves the study of selected places of remembrance, historical policy of the local government and media discourse. The article is limited to the presentation of the most important places of memory, the analysis of the historical policy of the local government, and also examines the local discourse relating to historical figures and events of the past. Thanks to this, two foundations of collective memory of the contemporary inhabitants of Gorzów Wielkopolski have been determined. The first is a sense of continuity between the history of German Landsberg and the Polish Gorzów. The grassroots actions of regionalists and the systematic policies of the local government led to the „recovery” for the public sphere of this part of local history, which remained marginalized during the period of the Polish People’s Republic. The second foundation is the so-called eastern borderland history, which has been gaining importance in local collective memory for several years. The author puts forward the hypothesis that the case of Gorzów and the collective memory of its inhabitants shows the interpenetration of many levels: the private and public sphere, the grassroots activity and policies of the local government, the functioning of the media, or finally the local specificities and the activity of the central institutions, and in the case of this border region also of foreign institutions. For this purpose, the following methods were used, among others: historical method, descriptive method, analysis of discourse. The main part of the article is preceded by theoretical considerations on collective memory and its carriers and a characterization of the history of Gorzów, particular attention being paid to the groundbreaking year 1945 and its consequences for the contemporary city.
Irena Dowgielewicz (ur . 1917 r . w Kijowie) należy do najstarszego pokolenia lubuskich poetów .

Irena Dowgielewicz (born in 1917 in Kyev) belongs to the oldest generation of Lubusz poets . Her literary work is looked upon from different perspectives, as it contains both female and sacral themes . In my article, I attempt to focus on her portraying places . I am interested in topography, which the author of “The Poplar Landscape” understands literally, but also as reversing the place (Eastern borderlands, Warsaw) and referring to its hidden meaning (“So we keep quiet bearing old cities”) . Another aspect I touch upon in the present article is the affective level of topography, which I see as the expression of emotions toward a place .
The purpose of this article is to investigate the process of erection in Gorzów the capital of Apostolic Administration of Kamień Pomorski, Lubusz, and Prelature of Piła – in fact the biggest diocese in Poland in the years 1945–1972. This process was composed of two elements: 1) decisions of the higher authorities of the Catholic Church, and 2) activity of the local government. As follows from the analysis of files in the State Archive in Gorzów Wielkopolski, the decision of the Church authorities was accidental. From mid August 1945 they were in search of a suitable seat for the diocese authorities. The natural, biggest centre in this area was Szczecin, but it was rejected, probably because of its peripheral location, and lack of guarantee that it will remain in Poland at that. On the other hand, Rev. Edmund Nowicki came accidentally to Gorzów as early as in August 1945. It was the first bigger town centre in the planned Administration’s territory he came to. He was extremely friendly welcomed by the local government administration headed by the Government Representative Florian Kroenke. In the decision to locate the capital of the Apostolic Administration in Gorzów he saw support to his efforts to make Gorzów capital of the Lubusz Land. To convince Rev. Nowicki of his favourable attitude, he ordered several renovations works in the church that had to become cathedral which were made at the city’s expense. This is perfectly demonstrated in the files preserved in the State Archive in Gorzów Wielkopolski.

Celem artykułu jest prześledzenie procesu powstania w Gorzowie stolicy Administratury Apostolskiej Kamieńskiej, Lubuskiej i Prałatury Pilskiej – w latach 1945–1972 faktycznie największej diecezji w kraju.
In the 1970s in the Polish People's Republic, despite declaration of co-existence of the state and the Church, the Communists continued to fight with the Church on the ideological plane and strived to weaken it and reduce its pastoral activity, and it especially referred to religious orders in Polish society. Those principles were implemented by the organs of administration and security in Środkowe Nadodrze. During that period, they tried to lead a flexible policy with regard to religious orders. According to the top-down decisions, religious authorities tried to neutralize monks from the political influence of bishops. First, they sought, and with success, to make religious orders and congregations in that area loyal to them. They did that mainly through frequent individual conversations with monks and visits to religious houses. Then they continued to implement the task of forcing the orders to respect socio-political principles and binding state laws. They systematically analysed and then provided the Office of Religious Affairs in Warsaw with the information on the overall assessment of the current attitudes and activities of religious orders in their provinces. They monitored, on a regular basis, the relationships inside religious orders and their pastoral activities. They sought to set monks at variance with the local bishop and diocesan clergy. The actions taken by local governments towards religious orders brought the desired effect. Monks complied with the state regulations concerning the Church and they were not engaged in anti-socialist activities.
