Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników wstępnych badań zagadnienia świadczeń na rzecz wojska w Wielkim Księstwie Poznańskim w latach 1815–1844. Temat ten jest nieobecny w polskiej historiografii, a w literaturze niemieckiej został poruszony jedynie w nieobiektywnych publikacjach wydanych przed 1945 r. Dlatego konieczna jest aktualizacja obecnego stanu wiedzy, zwłaszcza w celu zidentyfikowana grupy istotnych źródeł w archiwach polskich i niemieckich. W artykule przedstawiono stan badań w tym zakresie, omówiono kluczowe aspekty organizacyjne i strukturalne obecności wojsk pruskich w Wielkopolsce oraz nakreślono katalog głównych kategorii świadczeń na rzecz wojska w omawianym okresie. Postulaty badawcze sformułowane na tej podstawie stanowią przyczynek do planowanych badań nad kwestią wpływu świadczeń wojskowych na sytuację materialną mieszkańców prowincji. The aim of the article is to present the results of a preliminary study into the issue of benefits for the army in the Grand Duchy of Poznań in 1815–1844. This subject is absent from Polish historiography, while in German literature it was only addressed in biased works written before 1945. It is therefore necessary to update the current body of knowledge, especially in order to identify a significant group of sources in German and Polish archives. This article presents the state of research on the issue, the key organizational and structural aspects of the presence of Prussian troops in Greater Poland, and finally a catalogue of the main groups of benefits for the army in the discussed period. The research postulates formulated on this basis constitute an introduction to the planned studies on the problem of the impact of benefits on the material situation of the inhabitants of the province.

The Archdiocesan Archives in Poznań holds a very interesting and hitherto unexplored bound volume of records entitled Monasteries Register 1817–25. It contains information about inspections in the Grand Duchy of Poznań from 1817–1825 as well as some inspections from 1809–1810 in monasteries of the Diocese of Poznań. The inspections encompassed 16 monasteries: of the Benedictines in Lubiń; Bernardine Fathers in Grodzisk, Koźmin, Sieraków and Wschowa; Cistercians in Bledzew, Obra and Paradyż; Cistercian Nuns in Owińska; Dominicans in Wronki; Franciscans in Oborniki and Śrem; Franciscan Nuns (Poor Clares) in Śrem; and the Reformati in Miejska Górka (Goruszki), Rawicz and Woźniki. The records contain inventories of church and monastery furnishings, including library lists (all items or by shelf), and information about valuation (primarily in the German documents). The table included in the article contains the following: 1. leaf no. (unnumbered); 2. date and place of inspection or place from which a letter was sent to the General Consistory of the Poznań Archbishopric; 3. location of the inspected monastery and name of the religious order; 4. language of the document; 5. title given by the inspecting authority. Additional information is provided in square brackets. Wherever possible, the author gives the names and surnames as well as functions of the monks and nuns residing in each monastery during the inspection. Surnames as well as names sometimes have different forms; sometimes, too, the monks and nuns themselves used different signatures during the one inspection. Equivocal cases are marked by question marks [?].

W pierwszej połowie XIX wieku medycyna nie dysponowała środkami, które dziś uchodzą za podstawowe i powszechne. Szczepienia ochronne (przeciw ospie) były spektakularną nowością. Nie znano antybiotyków ani prawideł aseptyki, w dyscyplinach klinicznych dominowały marazm i rutyna. Wyzwaniem stawała się rosnąca liczba ludności i stałe zagrożenie epidemiczne. Obiecującą dynamikę wykazywały za to działania profi laktyczne, głównie o charakterze porządkowym. Skutecznie mogły je podejmować wyłaniające się w Europie nowoczesne struktury państwowe, ze zorganizowaną służbą medyczną na czele. W Prusach ciągle doskonalono formy administracji, osiągając wyniki bliskie perfekcji. W dziedzinie zdrowia kierowano się zasadami tzw. policji lekarskiej. Jej efektywność potęgowały kształtujące się pod wpływem Oświecenia sposoby sprawnego komunikowania. Ułatwiały zarządzanie i odegrały ogromną rolę także na polu zdrowotnym. Wyjątkowe znaczenie komunikatu sanitarnego zarysowano tutaj na przykładzie Wielkiego Księstwa Poznańskiego.

In the fi rst half of XIX century medicine did not have enough methods and possibilities to cure dangerous diseases. Vaccinotherapy was scarcely used, antibiotics were unknown, antisepsis and asepsis occurred not before the sixties. At the same time Europe experienced a great growth of population. Th ere were also many factors of epidemical risk. In those circumstances, education in prophylaxis was very important on the base at law and order. In order to solve many social problems there appeared an idea of building modern States with better competence and more possibilities. With the help of solid structures, like health service new arrangements could better cope with epidemic risks. In Prussian Kingdom the strategy in health protection was related to so-called medical police. Th e Enlightenment period was friendly to modern ways of communication which were essential basis of effi cient administration. Th e sanitary report played an important role among them and existed in the centre of health care system. Its special position and agenda have been described here on the example of the Grand Duchy of Poznań, part of the Polish territory, which belonged to the Prussian Kingdom, on the ground of the decision of the Vienna Congress 1815.
