Owing to its features, Greece is a country that can meet a whole range of tourist expectations. The country is a popular destination – the number of tourists is constantly increasing; in 2007 the number amounted to 18,754,593 visitors, over 92% of whom were Europeans. Greece is the most popular with the citizens of the Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Holland, France, and the neighbouring countries – Bulgaria, Albania and Macedonia. However, the tourism intensity is spatially differentiated. Attica and the South Aegean region, Ionian Islands and Crete enjoy the highest popularity among tourists. The regions of islands are most intensely visited, while the lowest intensity of tourism is observed in Epirus and West Macedonia. The highest tourism intensity ratio is observed in the case of the South Aegean region, and the lowest – in West Macedonia.
Walter Friedrich Otto (1874–1958) was one of the most outstanding representatives of German twentieth-century Altertumswissenschaft. Moreover, he played a prominent part in entire German culture of the period as an impressive humanist deeply convinced about the significance of Greek culture for modern European culture as a whole and, in particular, for German humanism. His theoretical interests in religious beliefs were enrooted in the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and close to Martin Heidegger. Otto embarked upon his scientific path by pursuing Latin studies and linguistics; previously, he studied Roman and, subsequently, Greek religions, perceiving the latter as a supreme achievement of religious thought, and claiming that the foundation of Greek polytheism was a religious attitude toward Being (das Sein), which he contrasted with Christianity. In doing so he considered himself to be a polytheist and a pantheist, in the manner of Goethe. German experts on classical culture for long treated Otto’s interpretations sceptically or outright grudgingly, and Martin Nilsson, regarded as a great authority, harshly assessed his Dionysus (first edition: 1933), today recognised as a classic. In contrast to Nilsson, Otto’s interpretation of Greek religion emphasised intense and authentic religious experience, which became the substance of the “vision” (das Schauen) of the believer. Cooperation with the acclaimed ERANOS group produced Otto’s brilliant study: Der Sinn der eleusinischen Mysterien (its English translation: The Meaning of Eleusinian Mysteries, was published in 1955), to this day extremely important for all dealing with this range of problems owing to the fact that it drew attention to the significance of religious experience in rites celebrated in the Eleusian telesterion. Today, Walter F. Otto is acknowledged as one of the “great four” of twentieth-century classical scholars dealing with Greek religion, on par with Károly Kerény, Jean-Pierre Vernant, and Walter Burkert. Familiarity with his conceptions, entire oeuvre, and specially, apart from Dionysus, his book: Die Götter Griechenlands, is absolutely indispensable for those wishing to earnestly study the religion of the ancient Greeks.
Geographically Greece is situated in a region which is largely unstable. In order to ensure eff ective security they deepen the bonds with Europe and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. The main task of Greece is to draw such a policy, which will be promoting both Greek national interests as well as it will be compatible with the policy of the European Union and NATO. This article refers to the Greek strategy of National Security for the 21st century, edited by Thaos Ntokos.

Modifications of the Bulgarian – Greek border in the 20th century (1913-1947)The text concentrates on presenting territory and border conflicts between Bulgaria and Greece, which were discussed during three international peace conferences. The first one, held in the summer of 1913 in Bukarest after the second Balkan war that ended in Bulgaria’s defeat, deprived the country of part of Aegean Macedonia. The second conference took place in 1919 in Neuilly, after World War I, and established the border between Bulgaria and Greece. Bulgaria lost West Thracia for the benefit of Greece.Lastly, the third peace conference, held after World War II, in 1946 in Paris, concluded the controversies over the border and territory, giving the two countries quo ante bellum status. As a result, Athens, demands to move the Bulgarian border to the north were dismissed, as well as Sofia’s postulate to regain access to the Aegean Sea.The final outcome of 20 years of battles over a satisfactory border was unfavourable to Bulgarians. The loss of access to ope sea, decided upon after World war I, was sustained after World War II, and has not changed until today.
In this article Authors characterized the Greek cuisine and local food products used to preparation of dishes. They described culinary regions of country and presented practical utilization the Greek cuisine in tourist offer (typical gastronomy institutions bidder traditional dishes, vineyards and wineries visited by tourists).
In ancient Greece and Rome, though it considered that children constituted God’s blessing and the wealth of the man, and the sterility is fatality and the divine punishment, on the other hand one committed kills of children in the mother’s womb, and even killings from favour of eugenic children already born. Such position took up Plato and Aristotle, despite the view about the animation of the foetus already in the mother’s womb. Stoics who thought that the foetus was only a part of the mother, they did not see the problem, to make the abortion in every moment the maternity period. The abortion was so executed, however to this practice accompanied also and the social condemnation which saw in the abortion the crime worthy of the divine punishment and human, and expression of this are works of Aeschylus, Cicero, Ovid and Juvenal.
The article analyzes the political changes that have taken place in Greece following a double parliamentary election of 2015 (in January and September), focusing on three levels: 1) party system change, 2) electoral system change into parliament, 3) constitutional reform. The first part of the text sets out the basic changes in the structure of the party system, emphasizing the electoral victory of the radical forces – the far left populist SYRIZA or the rise of the far-right (Golden Dawn) in the double election of 2015. The paper also briefly reviews the nature and functioning of the Greek parliamentary electoral system with special regard to the newly adopted electoral law. In this respect, the paper highlights the main constitutional principles governing suffrage, as a necessary background to examining and understanding the framework upon which Greek electoral systems are based. It also presents the main features of the current electoral system, since it is the one to be applied in the following parliamentary election. The focus will be then on the recent reform of the electoral system in Greece after the adoption of Law 4406/2016. The paper analyses its most significant aspects and raises a number of relevant questions. Special reference is made to the voting procedure followed by the Greek Parliament for the adoption of Law 4406/2016, since it is a key factor for its enforcement. Since the outbreak of the crisis discussions about constitutional reform have been ongoing in Greece, although the initiation of a formal amendment process was blocked until 2013, due to the time-constraints imposed by the constitutional amending formula. The paragraph assesses the proposals made in July 2016 by the Tsipras government for a radical revision of the 1975 Constitution, taking into account the intense debate which engaged Greek constitutional law scholars. The Author highlights the particular features of the Greek constitutional revision model, characterized by political-elite-driven change which has led in the past to amending attempts lacking of a broad consensus. The broad scope of the proposed amendments requires political foresight and caution to prevent the constitutional revision from being reduced to a mere political diversion to ensure the permanence in power of certain political actors in the absence of consent and to deflect attention from continued controversial austerity policies.

Przedstawiono główne cechy obecnego systemu wyborczego na podstawie ostatniej reformy systemu wyborczego w Grecji, ustawy no. 4406 z 2016 r.

W związku z powyższym albo integracja w ramach strefy zostanie pogłębiona, albo należy ponownie rozważyć przyjęte koncepcje działania strefy euro i zaproponować rozwiązania dające państwom członkowskim strefy więcej narzędzi polityki gospodarczej, dzięki którym mogłyby przeciwdziałać niekorzystnym zjawiskom w gospodarce krajowej.

This article attempts to define the causes of the outbreak of the crisis in the euro zone, with particular emphasis on Greece. The current economic situation of this country calls into question the prospects for accession of the Eurozone countries, for example Poland. Our research shows that the causes of the crisis in Greece can be considered in two ways – as a derivative of external and internal conditions. The term external conditions we understand as the mechanisms of the Eurozone’ functioning and the term of internal conditions – functioning of the Greek economy. Analysis of these two groups indicates that the mechanism of the Eurozone’ functioning is definitely the dominant group. In our opinion the Eurozone cannot function efficiently in its current form. In view of the above, either the integration within the zone will be deepened, or concepts concerning the mechanism of the Eurozone should be reconsidered and proposed solutions which gave the Member States more economic tools, so that they could counteract the negative phenomena in the national economy.
This paper examines the extent of use of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices among 27 companies from 9 of the biggest industries in Greece based on their annual revenues. The types of practices used are examined and grouped into five categories, related to: Environment, Community, Marketplace, Values and Vision and the Workplace, depicting the emphases and priorities of these enterprises. Data have been collected from published information available on the Internet. The information gathered was content-analyzed while the categorization based on CSR activities followed, so as to enable us to detect patterns and variations between industries. The findings provide a picture of the types of CSR practice choices that large companies operating in Greece are making, with regard to the content, variety and number of occurrences. The findings in this study offer an understanding of the approach of large Greek companies to CSR and demonstrate the particular importance they assign to specific domains of CSR in the period of economic crisis. Considering the increasing importance of CSR practices in the way businesses conduct themselves and the rising trend of adopting such practices and communicating them to the stakeholders involved, the knowledge produced about corporate CSR practices can help in the creation and enrichment of best practices which can then be communicated and advertised to the wider population of the country’s businesses.

Populism is a phenomenon that has developed particularly in the years after the crisis in Europe. This does not mean that it did not exist in the pre-crisis era, but its impetus at this time creates significant pressures for both democracy and the very future of Europe. However, populism exist both in the right and the left of the political spectrum, but its meth-ods goes beyond the ideological contradictions on the road to gaining and preserving pow-er. The comparative study of these features and an attempt to categorize them is the basic aim of this article. Therefore, we use the example of the right-wing populist party “Law and Justice” which is governing Poland and the left-wing populist party, SYRIZA, which is the ruling party in Greece, in order to highlight both the differences, but most importantly the similarities in their strategies and methods.

The author of the paper analyses the German position on the Greek crisis in public finances after 2009. He points out that providing financial aid to Greece was never questioned, even in Germany. What the government of Angela Merkel had in mind, however, was for Greece to implement strict austerity and budgetary discipline, on which the assistance from international financial institutions would rely. In its policy towards Greece, the German Chancellor had to take into account the reactions of German society, which was reluctant to make concessions and further outlays from the German budget for the defaulting partner.

The present commentary is aimed at elucidating the terms made use of by Photius, the Patriarch of Constantinople, in the entry abyrtake included in his Lexicon. The authors of the study maintain that abyrtake was a sauce of Medic (i.e. Persian) origin, which might have been known to the Greeks even before the VIth century but eventually beeame popular in the IVth, BC. It was a luxury dish eonsisting of vinegar, eress, garlic, mustard, raisins and salted capers.
The Greek Civil War of 1946-1949 divided the Greek society into allies of the monarchy and supporters of the Communist Party of the Greece-led Transitional Democratic Government of Free Greece. The military arm of the leftist center was the Democratic Army of Greece. Until some time, the communist forces were actively supported by the countries of the Eastern Bloc: Albania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and Romania. However, the Stalin-Tito conflict, which intensified from 1948 onwards, contributed to the defeat of the Democratic Army of Greece, caused by the overwhelming military advantage of the monarchist forces. In mid-1949, a decision was made to evacuate partisan units and the civilian population that had been under their control to Albania. Also, Poland, a country that suffered greatly as a result of World War II, helped Greece. First, by providing food, military and medical equipment, and later by accepting over 13,000 children and adults, fighters and civilians from the areas covered by the war, all terribly tired of war and wandering. The group of migrants was organized from scratch, provided medical and social care, work, education, and access to culture. Migrations of people in search of shelter from conflicts, persecution, and poverty are not only a contemporary problem of the European Union. This article presents the reforms initiated by the government of the Polish People's Republic as a result of the escalation of the crisis in the Balkans. In Poland refugees from Greece found completely new living, civilization, cultural, geographical, and economic conditions. Gradually, they managed to settle in this foreign country. Today many of them are grateful to Poland for their help.

Do pewnego czasu siłom komunistycznym aktywnego wsparcia udzielały państwa bloku wschodniego: Albania, Bułgaria, Jugosławia, Czechosłowacja i Rumunia.
